Is there anything I can spray on equipment to prevent winter rust?

Down here in Florida we don't deal much with "winter" rust, but it's very humid all year long. When the mowing is done, I use Fluid Film on everything. I also deal with the salt spray similar to the lobsterman.

I'm the OP on this thread and way back I mentioned liquid floor wax. Late in summer on a hot and dry day I am near certain I saw someone spraying what appeared to be liquid floor wax on older equipment and using a pump sprayer. The next day, the machinery had a soft sheen on it and that sheen seemed to last despite rain and snow. I was not able to find the owner. Beats me but it worked and it did appear to be liquid floor wax.
Anyone know if this makes sense?

i've still found it's hard to beat paint vs preventing rust.. for the reasons pointed out. humid all year.. etc.

Most common way is diesel mixed with hyd oil inside seeders / fert spreaders etc , anything with moving parts . And on paint most i know just spray with diesel and rub down .

As a lobster fisherman working in the salt water inviroment . Crown , fluidfilm and penlube are what everyone uses here.
my preference is Crown and I have 20 year old tools on the boat that still work like new .

Can you tell me the full name of the Crown product? Not familiar with this.

We always clean the piece of equipment up real good [ water and brush, hard rinse ]
let it dry off real good, get a pair of rubber gloves, a big rag, and a big can of CHEAP boiled linseed oil. Whipe the linseed oil on with the rag and let it dry. Drys like a plastic coating. Makes the paint last and look like new. Also works like a wonder on shovels and all hand tools. WOOD OR METAL. Works like magic on plow shares and disks. Like I said, it really preserves the original paint. Keeps things looking like new and NO RUST. Passed down from grandpa.

Wow--I wonder if that's what I saw that I thought was floor wax? It looked just as you describe and did dry like a plastic coating. Did you thin it with a solvent?

sixdogs, pour it on the rag straight out of the can no diluting. After my single bottom plow is cleaned of dirt and dry, I can do a coat of linseed oil on it in just a few minutes. It keeps the J.D. Green shining and the linseed oil scours off the plow in just a few feet of plowing. A can goes a long way, buy the cheap stuff and use it on your shoveles and rakes too. Good for all wood handle tools. Never tried a spray bottle, but just off the rag goes on real fast. Boiled Linseed Oil.
