IMG_20140728_111239748.jpgHey ya'll...got my first new small tractor (Kubota B2320), and I couldn't have made the decision without spending hours here and researching...so thanks for that. I have quickly found out what so many of you already know. A PTO shaft can be a bugger.
I am trying to re-attach mine, and I'm not sure it's seated as it should be. It is cleaned and lubed. I've tried different angles, etc. as I've read on here. Can anyone tell me if this is as connected as it gets, or does it have to be seated snugly all the way to the back of the stub?
Oh. The lock is button/spring loaded type.
thanks in advance.

There is no way to tell from a photo. The yoke should not be covering the entire exposed shaft.

If it is a button type, once you are sure that you have pushed the yoke on far enough that the retainer is past the end of the shaft (that is, the button won't pop out if you release it), it is seated when you have pushed it on far enough the button pops out and you can no longer slide the yoke either way along the shaft.

Don't try to make it too complicated - it's really very simple.

Thanks. I'm trying to keep it simple, but the dang thing's not cooperating. I know I just need a lot of practice. This is the first time I'm attaching. I added another picture as I was able to get it farther on, but the button seems stuck, and the "lip" of the shaft isn't inside of the lip of the stub.IMG_20140728_115309389.jpg

The button should line up roughly with the groove in the shaft. From the picture you have it in way too much. Try sliding it out slowly until the button snaps into place and locks the shaft on.

You may be able to rotate your PTO shaft on the tractor to allow you to line up with the PTO shaft from the implement...if so , it makes it easier...If you have a button..it will snap out when connected...if you have a ring type connector..it will also snap in place. In any event, once you pull back and forth on the shaft...hard...and it does not come off ..then it should be connected...go slow with your rpms at firs to be sure and raise your implement as high as you can before engaging the PTO ...by doing so it may lock in place if not already locked....Good Luck.

thanks, all. I appreciate your time. Timster was right on...I had it on too far. I pulled back, and it snapped into place.

Once you get it started on to the tractor PTO shaft there is no need to continue to hold down the button, just release the button and slide it forward slowly till it pops out and locks.

I push mine all the way in with the button depressed, then release the button, and pull back until it clicks. Always have grease on my hands after.

I always add a light coating of grease to the PTO splines. Keeps things from rusting and makes life easier when swapping implements.
