I have had a 5000 for about 15-20 years. If the 3000 runs good and the hydraulics work well and there is nothing major wrong with it buy it, hit the loader arms with Ford blue, and keep on gittin it. Like Bigfoot says ths x000 series very strong and **** near bullet proof. That price is fine if there are no issues.

A neighbor sold a similar one (little better condition) for around that. I looked at it but passed, mostly because there isn't a ROPS and also because when I asked around folks said parts could be hard to come by and they had to fabricate some things on theirs. I believe that around that vintage there were steering issues with a couple of model years, though I don't remember the specifics of the model or year. I'd do some internet searches on the model and year and see what folks are saying. Unless you like the look or having that vintage tractor you can likely get a much newer tractor for similar money.

Hello, This a 3000 Ford diesel w/ a loader and a 6 foot used bush hog. The guy is asking $4500.00
for everything. The tractor runs good and the loader works good.
I am not a Ford guy and really don't know much about them.

My question is, do you think the tractor is worth the price $4500.00 ?
I would appreciate your help on this one before I buy.

sincerely,
DUKE

Rule#1 when buying old tractors--determine where you can get repair parts at reasonable cost before forking over your hard earned bucks. Nothing more aggrevating than having to scrounge around the Web and/or junk yards trying to find a part that will work in your tractor.
Otherwise, if that 3000 check out, I'd offer $4K and negotiate.

Good luck.

That's a pretty good price for a good old rig.

I just bought a 3000 with loader, the guy said his daughter had listed it and thought it was listed to high(2800.00) so I could have it for 2200.00 as it needed
work. In the process of a rebuild, plan on spending 2500. on it but will end up with a good machine, so $4500.00 would be the average price up here (Canada)
for a tractor that is a 6 out of 10. 10 being perfect. I would check for blow by, and if possible get a compression test done on it, if he is agreeable.
I was originally looking for a MF 135, but impossible to find, I've been looking for 3 years, so figure the ford is next best as parts are readily available for reasonable price.

Without a doubt this class of Ford was the work horse of small farms starting in the late 60's but several things do not add up with the one in this photo.

The rear tire seems to have leaked as it is currently mounted based on the stain pattern plus the rear rim paint job does not match that of the rest of the tractor. I just do not like tractors with rusting rear rims because of the unknowns of what they are like on the inside due to chemical damage.

It was almost like it was pieced together from spare parts laying around a tractor lot. The FEL sub frame looks it was left in the dirt before getting mounted on this tractor AFTER the tractor got some new blue paint but from the wear on the foot rest it has had some hours put on it after the paint job unless it was just bad paint that is coming off.

The sheet metal is bent up in ways not common with just normal usage. Not sure what happened to the lower part of the front grille.

I am not sure the FEL is from the initial parts when you look at the paint. The black part may be the factory color. The lift arms may have been yellow but had a bad blue paint job 40 years ago. The lift cylinder looks I it was just tossed on the ground for years.

Now the tractor may be good but the seller shows not pride in his line up of tractors in that they look more like clunkers.

There are just too many red flags to me to develop a love for the old iron is all I am saying. A wire brush and $15 of cheap rattle can paint used before mounting the FEL would have made it look $1500 better. You can see they used new front mounting bolts to install the FEL.

Things that raises 'why' questions tend to be show stoppers for me.

I agree.

I have more questions about that tractor than we wil probably ever see answers for.

Duke,
Wondering about your 820 Deere, is it in good working condition and will you keep it too? I ask because the 3000 is only slightly larger and seems to be well worn imo.

This is a picture of the bush hog that comes with it. I want to thank everyone for their help and good
advice.
At $4500.00 dollars w/ a FEL and bush hog, I compared this tractor with others with no FEL or bush hog
and learned the following: A friend told me to check tractorhouse, com, and the prices range from $3800.00 to $ 6800.00
with out any attachments and most were gas. After learning the above info. I decided to buy the tractor. Should have it here by Wednesday , and I will let everyone know how it turns out.
Again thank you all for your good advice.
Sincerely, DUKE

Yes I am going to keep my 820 it's my pet tractor. I like the old tractors better, I also have a old
310c Case track loader which I use quite a bit and a old 2020 J.D. that I'm in the process of
restoring.
I will post some pictures of them when I get the 2020 further along/
Thank's a lot for your interest, that's what makes this a great site, Guy's that love their tractors,
sincerely,
DUKE
