greg i was wondering about that but i wasen't sure. another dealer not mine told me not to mix udt with super udt. is this true?

Standard UDT and super UDT are compatable with each other. Yes you can mix them.
per kota's website:
"KUBOTA Original Transmission hydraulic fluid. The oil used to lubricate the transmission is also used as hydraulic fluid. To insure proper operation of the hydraulic system and complete lubrication of the transmission, it is important that a multi-grade transmission fluid be used in this system. We recommend the use of KUBOTA UDT or SUPER UDT fluid for optimum protection and performance. (Consult your KUBOTA dealer for further detail.)
Do not mix different brands together. "

Yes don't mix BRANDS. But UDT is UDT. One is synthetic and one is dino. Just like Mobile one or other synthetic oils, they can be mixed with a non synthetic oil.
I also asked the dealer about mixing, he said yes, but who knows where he got his information. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I did it today. I had three quarts of super UDT left over from a prior change. I put them in the hydraulic fluid with the new standart UDT. It ain't blown up yet. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I agree but some on this forum think UDT is not the same as Super UDT (I for one). Based on what I was told, there two fluids are designed for different applications. The super UDT can do more “things” then the normal UDT.
The 1 million dollar question is why would you even way to mix a synthetic with a dino? You care gaining nothing here, if anything, you are lowing the benefits of the synthetic. Unless we are talking group 3 hydraocracked dino oil here.
But if you are using UDT or Super UDT in a hyd application, you are fine. But Super UDT can be used in applications that normal UDT can not. Then the two can not be mixed.

What you are missing is that different brands have differing chemical properties that might not be compatible with each other. UDT is not a brand, but a specific product of Kubota, as well as Super UDT is also another product. The similarity of names doesn't always mean that it is compatible. Just like the word salt doesn't give you any indication of what type it is. You wouldn't use rock salt in a recipe that called for table salt, even both have the similarity of the term "salt". Whenever mixing or interchanging any product it is incumbent upon the user to make sure that they are compatible by reading the label. Chlorine bleach and sudsy ammonia are both household chemicals, but if you mix them, you will have disastrous results.

The reason I say you can mix Mobile One synthetic with dino oil is people are always asking on "Bob the oil guys" site if you run out of synthetic oil and need to top off your engine if you can mix dino oil with synthetic oil. The resounding answer is ,,,YES. This opionion is shared by some of the most oil product knowlegeble folks on the site.
Now that this thread has turned into a discussion on what can be mixed with what and what is UDT, I will just go to the dealer and buy Super UDT. I have been told, and they could be wrong, that Super UDT is a synthetic version of standard UDT. I like synthetic oil products and would like to stay with synthetic products in my machines.

Yes. I agree with you. Why would you? But where the discussion was going was, can you if you had to. (IE your engine is low on oil and the store you are at only sells dino oil.)
Now I did mix the two yesterday on my B7800 , as my dealer was out of Super UDT. So knowing I had three quarts of Super UDT left over from a prior trans oil change, I bought regular UDT, less three quarts, and used that combo for my transmission/hydraulic system oil change. Will it diminish the Super UDT fluid advantage over regular UDT? Most likely. But do I care? No, as I planned it that way. My main worry was can I mix the two fluids without complications. The answer is yes.

If the dealer is that far away, why not plan your purchase when you know that you are going in that direction. Also, consider purchasing some extra so you don't have to go back as soon......... Or, you can do as some others do..... go to the store, come back and read the rest of the manual, and then go back to get the rest of the parts..... Some people can plan ahead and others are just not that organized. Oh I do. Most of my purchases (filters and such) he ships via UPS to me. I just don't want to pay shipping on UDT. The problem is I rarely go in the dealer's direction. Plus I don't want to start stocking UDT at home, as I don't use that much with two tractors. And it's expensive. That is why I was inquiring about using some other brand of fluid.
I looked at Amway, I mean Amsoil /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif and did not like the idea of doing business with a multi level marketer and again, paying shipping from Las Vegas which is where the closest dealer to me is located. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The 5 gallon pail was about $65 the last time that I checked. With the way that oil prices have been going up, it might be like money in the bank to keep a spare 2 1/2 or 5 gallon jug in the garage. I intend to keep a spare for those moments when a hose breaks or some other catastrophe that seems to always happen when the dealer is closed. My biggest problem is that the local Kubota dealer doesn't stock Kubota brand filters or oil. I have to go to another dealer that is about 35 miles away. I get filters and small items from www.tractorsmart.com and they always come faster than if I order them from the local dealer. With him, I have to go there, pay for it before he will order the part, and then go back to pick it up when it comes in..... that is if they remember to call and say that it is there.

I like synthetic lubricants. It's HOT here in the summer time. Real hot! Heat is hard on machines. I've used Mobile One synthetic oil products in my vehicles for years. I even use it in my Harley.
For as little as I will have to change my hydraulic fluids, I will most likely go with the Super UDT. I wish there was a synthetic alternative readily available here in my town. It's Auto Zone, Kragen and Car Quest for automotive parts and oils suppliers. And Walmart which I hate patronizing! Not a lot of choices. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif But that's what I get for living in a rural high desert area.

I was unable to get my Kubota fluid in time for this weekends 50 hour service, so I ended up using "Coastal" brand universal tractor hydraulic fluid.
Kubota was listed on the "Approved use list" on the outside of the pail. I purchased the stuff at AutoZone for $28.00 per five gallon pail. Anyone have any history with this product?

I wouldn't mix oils.
Oil mixes with oil fine, 80w will blend will 50w & 40w... they allstarted as "dino grade".... all are "miscible" as the chemists say..."mixable" in RWT...
Danger is in detergents and other "trade additives" companies put in their oils but may not specify type or even have to... different detergents could (not necessarily would) interact to lose some or all detergent properties... or worse case scenario "throw a clot" (?)
Unless you are low on oil and need to move ASAP, I would stay with whats used, which sucks for me, because Wal-Marts 45 min away, and closest dealer 1.5 hours! I keep extra...
P.S. If you check most 5 gal pails have "manufacturer codes" that specify which specs the contents meet/exceed. Better to have the extra $$$ for diesel, way I see it!
P.S.S. For veteran members... if you are changing hydraulic fluid before recommended, do you see particles in it if you drop a magnet into the bottom? What about gear oil? I know it "sits", but is that something the maintenance minded replace in excess of recommendations? Particles in it?
