Well, I agree to a point. But the law-abiding idiot that now thinks he is on a mission from God to protect the world can be just as dangerous as criminals. I question the emotional stability of someone who wants to show the world "I got a gun." LEO's see these folks in the form of some of the volunteer officers, and those are the folks you DON"T want carrying guns.
If you are smart, you keep it concealed, IMHO.
Thanks for calling me stupid.

I don't open carry very often but I think your attitude that people who open carry think they are on a mission from God or are emotionally unstable is totally mistaken. Are you ashamed of having a firearm? Do you feel you should carry but you are embarrassed for anyone to know? Why do you jump to conclusions that anyone open carrying is an idiot?
Yes, we are our own worst enemy. We don't want to publicly admit what we believe.
As it is now, the only guns most people see are those used by criminals and shown dramatically on "News at 11". Maybe if the general public saw more honest, law abiding people carrying guns, we would not so many restrictions.
Now I'll admit that I rarely open carry because I don't want stores to suddenly start posting "no guns" signs. But if I'm not going into stores, I see no reason to feel that I have to cover up. Mostly I open carry when I'm horseback riding and figure the gun is going to be exposed anyway.
