With all of the the talk about conseal carry permits,I am curious as to what states allow open carry.

In Ohio, you are allowed to open carry without a permit/license.what other states have this law?

It is legal in theory here, but you will be answering a lot of questions in the urban areas and not worth the hassle.

Oklahoma will be after November!!!! I would not open carry except around the property. I just wanted the open carry to minimize the potential problem of exposing while concealed carry.

Missouri modified the concealed carry law this legislative session to clear up a problem with your weapon becoming inadvertently exposed or while transferring a weapon from concealment to storage etc.

When Oklahoma open carry takes effect it is only legal if you have a concelled carry permit. I don't plan on open carrying, but it at least keeps you legal if your weapon does become exposed.

There will be some yahoos that will open carry in Oklahoma after November 1 just to see what the police will do. Shows a total lack of sound judgment, IMHO.

I agree Ken. The accidental display getting in and out of your vehicle will be protected.

Open carry is constitutionally protected in Pennsylvania.
The only time one needs a permit to carry is if the gun is concealled. Before another PA resident tries to correct me (and one will), the correct description is License to Carry Firearms (LTCF).
Now, the sticking point is when you're carrying openly while driving. There have been more then one DA trying to convict an open carrier of carrying a concealled weapon without a permit if they're caught while driving. As you may expect, this idiocy is mostly around the Philadelphia area.
That said, I rarely carry openly. I don't want the attention or the hassles. Nor to I want to lose the element of surprise if I'm attacked.

Oregon is open carry without a permit. I have a sidearm holster for my S&W 686 with a 6" barrel. It would be tough to conceal that hogleg.

Michigan is open carry. I don't. For concealed carry you are already covered for printing or accidental showing. Only get in trouble if you brandish, or threaten with it.

VA is open carry, but like others have alluded to there is a difference between Abingdon (downstate) and Arlington (the Peoples Republic of).

Missouri is an open carry state, but municipalities can prohibit, so it's a mishmash of where you can and can't. In some areas you may be legal open carrying, until you cross the street and find yourself in a different municipality.

Please explain. I open carry in and around Abingdon almost daily. I guess you mean in Arlington they might give you a hard time?

A very dangerous half truth. Yes, Ohio is an open carry state, no license required for open carry. However, in a motor vehicle is automatically concealed and a concealed handgun license is required even if the firearm is clearly visible. This even applies to someone on a motorcycle where the gun is visible from 100' away. It's still considered "concealed".

Also, as regards vehicles, that only applies to handguns. Loaded long guns are illegal, and a loaded magazine legally makes a long gun "loaded" and illegal even if the magazine is no where near the rifle or shotgun.
