I am planning to buy a new backhoe but dknt know the different between ISO or JIC? I am thinking about a Woodmax 7600 to run on my L2600. Any pros or cons?

Thanks

Are you asking about hydraulic fittings or joystick control patterns? If looking for control patterns I would go with SAE which uses the left hand to control swing and boom and the right hand to control dipper and bucket curl. From my experience this control layout is more common. With the ISO pattern the left controls swing and dipper with the right hand controls boom and curl. Lots of manufacturers offer a valve to select either pattern.

JIC fittings are threaded fittings used for high pressure applications with 37 degree angle metal seats. Very commonly used to make up hydraulic hoses where the hose end can not rotate and a swivel fitting is needed. ISO couplers and fittings are easier to work with and require less force to tighten and connect up as they use o rings on the face to seal up. The ISO fittings are more common in modern equipment built in recent years, I know most of my tractors use them.

Jenkinsph, I don't know if I agree with you about the control pattern layout. Cat excavators use the ISO pattern and I would venture to say it is the more common layout. I myself tend to like it better as that is what I got used to first. Now on a backhoe, I prefer the Case three (or 4) stick layout! But I'm sure I am in the minority on that!

All the small Cat excavators I have run had a selector valve to choose either pattern. Still the OP is looking at a Woodmax attachment not an excavator. Every time I have to use a Case backhoe I have to retrain myself, takes about 20 minutes for my brain to function correctly.:D With seat time they are all good imo. It is easier to pick one pattern and stick with it though.

ISO couplers come in ORB(o-ring boss) & NPT. ISO stands for industry standard

SAE is what Cat uses, ISO is like Deere and others, although today, most have a pattern selector

Over the years I have run several excavators and backhoes mostly John Deere and a few Cats but all have been Air Force or Army. It has been a long time since I have run any machine. In fact I was stationed in Panama in 1991 and don't remember the which pattern they were. I didn't know you could change the pattern on commerical ones.

Ah, yes i did miss the part about the couplers! The newer machines do usually have a selector for the control layouts and I greatly appreciate that little bit of engineering. I have never used the wobble sticks in a backhoe and hence my preference for the older case layout. I love watching someone who has not operated a case hoe and the learning curve that they go through since I learned it at such a young age. Either way, a good operator is almost a joy to watch since they are so fluid and make difficult tasks look effortless. (I often am able to run something but I rarely ever claim to be an operator on equipment.)

My wife and I went to our local Kubota dealer today with my tractor in tow ready to buy a new backhoe. Well right off the bat the dealer said that they would not put a back hoe on the L2600 or on our new BX2670 because the 3 pt would not stand the stress over time. The only way was if I purchased the sub frame which is another smooth $875. since it is winter and it will be wet till spring I think I will forget about the hoe then in the spring maybe focus on a mini track hoe. May be a sweet deal will fall into my lap. Who knows strange things do happens.
