Man to each his own (and plus your age and/or health), but I will say that I stick the ear buds in my ears, and either blast some tunes or listen to podcasts while doing my thing out there, mowing and trimming and blowing and stuff. Got the shirt off, feeling that warm sun, working on my tan...and when I'm done, that beer tastes awesome, sipping on it as I look over my well-tended property all done by me. And then a long shower, a good meal, and then vegging with my wife in front of the TV...that there is a good day.

5030 enjoying the good life :D (y)
I earned it through wise investment, buying real estate when it was reasonably priced and working my butt off for a company that appreciated me and compensated me accordingly and when that company changed hands I retired as did a lot of my co workers that could.

Other than terminal cancer, my wife and I are financially set. I just wish I could live long enough to fully enjoy it but my wife surely will as well as my son and her son.

No liabilities here other than some small and easily paid off notes. All my investments are joint and survivorship, I planned it that way. BTW, this is our summertime home up North... It's on 185 acres of second growth hardwood and mature pine trees...

I have several new neighbors. Some are country wise, and some are not. Our fire level just went from high to extreme. Still, one, decided to start cutting blackberries along the road. I told him there was an old fence line in those berries so maybe using a brush hog might not be a good ideal. Didn't listen, or there was a mis-communication. He hit a whole line of the old metal posts. Probably tore up his hog and made for a fire hazard. I'm sure he had the best of intentions. But he also didn't have water on hand. Need to find a polite way of say'en, "Don't do that again." :)

"I just wish I could live long enough to fully enjoy it but my wife surely will as well as my son and her son." There is joy in leaving a legacy! :)

Let them earn their own legacy. I've seen too many spoiled ***** who didn't have to earn what they had.
I want to time it so I spend the last of my assets on my last day here.
Party on Garth.

I actually enjoy mowing (probably a sickness), but what I HATE is line trimming. If I were to do all of the trimming in the same day, it would take me 2 hours, easy. I hate it, and my right shoulder hates it (main reason I hate it is my right shoulder is then angry at me for a couple days after).

Problem with hiring it done is, no one is going to do the job good enough to please you. And getting them to come out on time (as scheduled) each time. If you get a good one, they are suddenly too busy. The crappy amateurs, with 2 kids in a pickup truck, no insurance, with a push mower and a weed eater are a dime a dozen, but do a terrible job. Oh yeah, and start of next year, here is your rate increase.

I'll continue to do my own, for as long as I'm able.

I HAVE to like mowing. I mow about 3-4 days a week. String trimming is pretty nasty when it’s 90+ and high humidity.
I enjoy string trimming in the fall when it’s cool outside. Great workout. Luckily I have a son who can cover some ground :)

We got 4 ponds that’ll need whacked in a month or so, about a mile of swampy creek, and lots of fence lines.

ts’all good. (y)

These are words not uttered by anyone with a cab and AC!

“feels like” temp in triple digits, heat advisory…no worries.
Farmers survived many years without cabs or AC. Our JD 520, 620 and "Ferguson" obviously didn't have either and we learned to work at the best times to avoid the heat as much as possible. I remember many a day putting up hay in barns that had to be over 120 degrees.

They are definitely worth their money and people who make their living farming they are vital to keeping up with the work.

I remember those days, way to many of them in fact. Somehow I was the one that always ended up at the top of the barn putting up hay or housing tobacco. Bean hay was always the worst.

Worked a few times for this one guy whose barn had only one opening into the loft for hay or people and it was only just big enough to get a bale of hay though. We would spend almost as much time rotating who was in the barn as we did putting up the hay with many only able to make one round in the loft. Seemed like that old man would always wait until the hottest day of the year before putting up hay.

I think I've only mowed 4 times this year. I don't care what the yard looks like, no one can see it but my wife, son, and me. I think I mowed a total of 4 times last year. I'm saving a lot of gas money and wear and tear on the mower not to mention the work. If we invite someone over I'll mow it then😁

Oh yeah, bean hay. I only had to deal with it once when the rain didn't come and the farmer figured it was better hay than nothing. Fortunately I had a pair of chaps to help keep from destroying my jeans. They were hot but saved a lot of jeans. The one thing that was worse than bean hay was red clover that had been rained on a couple times. After that it was mostly stems and black crud. Itchy, black crud...
