Thanks for all the kind words

"WHY are you apologizing?!!"

Mike I was playing off of another thread were someone called the tractors toys & you stated they were TOOLS. That post just came to mind after I typed "play".

I spent about 1 1/2 hours after the earlier posts getting familiar with the tractor. I removed the backhoe, installed the 3 point arms. This proved to be a challange as the backhoe mounting brackets do not leave alot of room to get the arms back on the lower pins. I think that once the balls in the arms loosen up it will go much better. Also the loop hose for the power beyond was blocking the center link bracket. It was a simple adjustment to get it out of the way. I installed the bucket level indicator & rear ballast & went to work.

It did not take long to see that I was in tractor heaven. There really is no comparison between the 4710 & the 4400. The 4400 is a great small tractor. I did a lot of work with it over the past 3 years. It is that the 4710 is a real tractor. The kind I remember back on the farm. We have 17 acres of ground. Besides the 10 tillable acres the only other flat areas are the floors of our bulidings. I was never really comfortable using the 4400 in alot of areas because of the narrow width.

I finished moving a pile of dirt today on the dam of our pond with the 4710. I had to drive down the slope on the back side of the dam to do it & I felt very at ease. I started to move it last fall with the 4400 & gave up. The 4710 is very stable. I do need the wheel weights on it. I had about 600 lbs on the 3 point & there were times that I could feel 1 rear wheel come off the ground when trying to break a bucket full of dirt loose from the pile. I probably should have reinstalled the backhoe for ballast.

As for the electronics. When the salesman was explaining the Load Match, I did not completely understand his explanation. I just could not see how it would be that useful. I found out while moving the dirt pile how useful it is. This has got to be one of the best features on the tractor.

The next project is going to be install 120 feet of 18" drian tile for a new pond overflow through the area that the dirt pile used to be. Then I have a huge amount of dirt to move from our back yard. It came from the excavation for an addition to our cabinet shop. I am going to post some pictures of some of the projects.

The first picture is an after shot of the dirt pile. I did not think of taking a before.

This is a picture of the amount of dirt I moved. The pile is about 7' tall X 20' around plus some of it went into a washed out area. It took a little under an hour to move it.

Another picture of our back yard. I think this pile is going to take some time to move.
I will try to keep everyone posted of how things go with the tractor. Again thank you all for the support & I hope that all of those that have tractors on order recieve them very soon.

Chevy, I agree with you, the 4400 you traded was a nice tractor. I traded mine a year ago but went with a NewHolland this time. Nothing against the John Deere but the NewHolland caught my attention (along with a turd for a local JD dealer) and I wanted to compare the two tractors. I was curious though, I liked my 4400 a lot and I must admit I was almost a little emotional when the NewHolland dealer loaded it on his truck. I suppose its a sign of the sickness each of us compact tractor owners has but I actually get a little attached to these things. It might be different if I was getting rid of lemon but the 4400 was essentially trouble free. Anyone else feel a little depressed when we lose an old friend?

Yeah, that's normal. We do come somewhat attached to our toys (oops.....tools). For most of us this is an event that only happens a couple times in our lives.

But.........the consolation is that you have a new "friend" to take your blues away quickly.

Chris, earlier you mentioned that you had ordered an MX6 to go with the 4710 but I didn't see it on the truck. Did you go ahead with that? Looks like you traded in a different brush hog - we'll be interested in what you think of the MX6 and how the 4710 runs it. (Should be a piece of cake.)

Tim,
Yes I did buy an MX6 cutter. They will be delivering it later. They had to order the rear weights so they will deliver it when they install the weights. I will let you know how it wotks out.
