Here in NW Georgia I spend a lot of time outdoors doing the typical work that needs to be done to keep livestock happy, wood stove fed, get the garden ready, and maintain the equipment one uses to do all of the above.

FINALLY in the last few days, since Monday, I am seeing huge flocks of geese wheeling around in the sky gathering more and more of their kin. After perhaps 200 or more of them pull together in 30 minutes or so of this, a V forms and they head north............Fantastic to see this as historically around here it's a sure sign of southerly winds, warmer trending days, and budding trees.............THANKS God, made it through another winter..............

Still a little early here in the Northeast, but you've got me looking skyward

Yeah, I saw the geese flying north too. I still don't believe the end of ole Man Winter has come yet though. Two weeks ago it was 77 degrees, then we got over a foot of snow, now it's back in the 70s. I don't trust Arkansas weather anyway! But I will admit, it sure it nice for now!

It is so nice outside today, that I don't know whether to go fishing or go plow a field :) Ken Sweet

I started seeing geese 3 weeks ago when we still had 2' of snow on the ground. And couple weeks later I started smelling skunk and knew Spring was coming early this year. Just 2 hours ago there were 2 robins in my yard! Are you kidding me?! There's grass showing from the recent thaw, but you just know we are going to get hit again. Probably more than once. Still, I seriously think that this will be the year winter doesn't run into April ;^)

As I was coming home from work this week the Canadian Geese were huddled in a corn field facing some nasty weather. this siting is about 10 miles on the north side of Lake Ontario. I did not see any today as the weather is about 35F so they may have moved alittle bit farther north.

How many of you have permanent Canada Geese flocks in your area? My farm (in the NC Piedmont) is on a "flyway" between ponds, so I see/hear small flocks pretty much year round.

It's still winter up here, knee deep snow and 22'F.

That's how it's supposed to be here in February though.:)

Here in mid-Missouri we have Canada geese flying in circles all year round. The Canadians can have them back any time.

Steve and Chuck.......Don't know if you guys are just trying to pull my chain; but this ol boy knows the difference between a few geese flying between feeding spots or a place to roost and seeing THOUSANDS over the last few days continue to gather up and head out NORTH........

Doesnt really matter just observing what I see........I guess the daffodills up and setting on bloom heads is just a random act of nature and not another sign of spring coming. Perhaps the flocks of robins scratchin up the forest floor above my house is another reason to espouse a lack of knowledge of the seasons. Observing 3 bluebird males fighting over a nest box is merely something to smart mouth off about rather than take joy that FINALLY this hard winter is perhaps over.........God bless.......Dennis

Dennis,

I didn't mean my post to be interpreted in that fashion. I was just asking if other TBN members had resident Canada geese in their locales. I'm sorry if you took it any other way.

GEESE: They do stay up north year round now; pond experts call them "rats with wings"--nasty tempered thangs.
ROBINS: What's up with them? Saw a small flock here in central Indiana 3 wks ago, & saw a large flock of red-breasts Monday. Must have their seasons mixed up!

We have a small flock that we see fly over our house from time to time all year long. A farm to the east of us has some ponds the geese like to visit and we see/hear them flying to and from those ponds.

At work there is a wetlands area behind our buildings and a larger pond a short flight away. Most of the year you will see the Geese flying to/from that pond. During the spring things get iffy. The Geese have nested up in the parking lots and there green scat is a mess to say the least. And the Geese are very protective of their nests. One of the Geese was seeing flying at the head of a guy... Who was driving a motorcycle to work. Can you imagine one of those Geese whacking you upside the head even with a helmet?

A couple years back I was driving by the pond. A Geese walked or flew low over the road in front of a car. BOOM down all over the place.:D Nothing the driver could do. It looked like he hit a very expensive pillow.

Feathers all over the place. :D

Hope the driver washed off the radiator.

When we lived in the city I would sometime take a short cut near a golf course. It must have been fun playing golf while dodging Geese and Goose Poo. :) The golf course was infested with them critters.

Later,
Dan

But dennis what everyone is saying we may still be in for a week or 2 of cold yet. Im only 28 and i can remember one or two winters with snow covering the yellow daffodills. Afterall we live in the south, im in SC but where im at and NGA is pretty much the same climate.

The snow in the north wont matter to the geese. the ones around here are use to crazy weather, we had 6"s of snow that the last of it was here for 1 week this winter and last year had a winter with out a day over freezing for like 4 days and 3 straight mourning in the single digits, solid ice in puddles for a week. Again i live in SC this is not normal for here!!

I was gonna say something like, if your saying it's spring where you are then you must not of had any winter. Talking about spring in Feb. doesn't register with me here in New England.

But that was a couple of days ago, today it was near 60 degrees and I started collecting maple sap, even boiled some today to make a quart of syrup :licking:

Piles of snow 8 feet high, but yes today it felt like spring had sprung.
