Thanks guys is there a particular prefered motor from 2005 on or are there no v-8's to avoid from 2005 on?

Thanks
Joel

I believe the Expedition has always been a "one engine" truck. The only engine available in the 2005+ Expedition is the 5.4 L 24V Triton V8. Believe me, if there was any uprated engine, I'd have gotten it.

Of course they do make a mean Whipple supercharger for that particular truck...haven't convinced the wife that I "need" it...yet...

They also put the 4.6L Triton V8 in the Expedition as a second choice other than the 5.4L. In my opinion its not enough engine for the Expedition. The 5.4 is the only real choice.

Wasn't aware of the 4.6L choice. As you say, not much of a decision there. The 5.4L is an exceptional engine. You do, however, need to keep your foot in it to get maximum benefit...where I like it most is 3,500 to 5,000 RPM at full throttle. In both first and second gear, you get a very satisfying push by it hitting its HP peak.

Of course, you're swilling the fuel at an alarming rate by doing that too much.

Fortunately, there is amply sufficient low-end torque for your RPMs to rarely crest 2,000 in normal driving.

Also know that the 2004 change to IRS makes the second generation of Expedition very appealing. Goes down the road very well. I call it "driving my couch". My wife agrees.

I have an '07 Expedition Limited XL 4x4. It has been the best driving and riding vehicle I have ever owned. It'll get 20mpg interstate driving. I've owned Expeditions since they were introduced in '97 and the current models are the best yet. My plans are to buy a new one when the 6.2 comes out, maybe this coming summer.

My father has had 2, a 1997 XLT and a 2001 Eddie Bauer. Both were 4x4 5.4L and they were great vehicles that were not in the shop a single day. He got rid of the 2001 in 2004 for a F-150 and has had 2 of them since.

Many of my customers have driven Expeditions and Navigators towing up to 8,500# boats with no issues. My uncle just traded his 2007 for a F-150 and routinely towed his 14K dump trailer with it loaded although I would not recommend it. He must have pulled 40 loads of gravel, 5 tons at a time plus the 4,200# trailer 15 miles each way. Only problem he had was a leaking windshield.

Sorry you are having such luck. I went through the same thing with my 2005 Dmax.

One suggestion is skip the F-250 no matter what engine. Get a F-350 SRW. Much more truck and only adds about $600. Also make sure you get the heaviest possible GVWR. Ford has something like 14 combination's in the 250/350 class.

Chris

I agree with the F350 suggestion. When I was old & ignorant I bought a F250 crew cab thinking I would have a 1500# payload. After checking the numbers (pointed out by experts on TBN) I find out that I知 overloaded with 4 fat guys.
Check those numbers before you buy, but I don稚 think anythong can beat the 7.3PS.

Out of curiosity, what kind of mileage did Dodge V-10 owners get? I've never met a Dodge V-10 owner with any long term experience with the engine. I have a hunch that poor mileage killed that engine more than anything else.

The V10 Dodge was built from the old 318/360 block, with 2 additional cylinders added. When the Hemi replaced those old blocks the V10 version died along with them. Those old 318/360 engines were designed in the 60's and were anything but efficient by today's standards. I don't remember the power numbers of the V10, but a properly geared Hemi may perform about as well, albeit perhaps at higher RPM, but certainly with less total fuel burn. Kinda like the old 300 six Ford, it was good in it's day, but that day is long gone.
