I agree. I have had to do this twice. I lost nearly 20K trading both my 2500 4x4 Hemi and my 3500 Dmax. It came down to I could not use them reliably for my business and was afraid to put my family in them for fear of getting stranded. It was a real shame with the Dodge. At the time we had it my wife drove it. We bought it brand new and I drove a Regular Cab F-350 7.3L 4x4. I had to go out and buy a used Saturn to tote the family around in because the Dodge was our only 4 door vehicle and I was afraid to drive in more than 30 miles from home.

What I am saying is sometimes you have to cut your losses and have a expensive lesson. Its a tough pill to swallow but for me had to be done and in the end I am glad I did.

The fix they listed above is a bunch of crap. It shows there is a problem and they know about it but want you to solve the issue by jerry rigging the intake box to draw air from inside the dog house area. What a bunch of crap!

Why is that fix a bunch of crap?? ALL of our snow plow trucks up here ( highway, roads,etc. ) have that exact feature installed. When plowing, basically flip a switch, and the air is sucked from under the hood, rather than from the outside.

It is PROVEN to work, not BS!!

Same thing in piston powered airplanes when flying in icing conditions. This is nothing new like you said but come on? I would not stand for that fix on any of my trucks no matter what brand. I would be on the dealers lot every Saturday making sure all the customers knew what type of crap they are trying to push on me.

The fix they are trying to give him is a Jerry Rig. Yes, it will work but its not right. There is a design flaw and they do not want to address it. Instead they are giving him so bogus fix.

I went through this with a 2500 Hemi. I was afraid to drive a 1 year old truck 30 miles from home. In my case the dealer was great with fixing it and wanted me to pursue the lemon law but after consulting a lawer it was not worth it. I simply walked and bought what I wanted and knew would do the job and keep my side business running.

I say drive the truck like you stole it and order that new Ford you want. When it comes in it will be a long forgotten bad memory.

It's a crock of crap fix because the truck's owner has to go through a twice yearly changeover of his air intake system...think switching from daylight saving time to standard and back.

Now if GM had come up with an electromechanical kit so the owner could flip a switch as needed, then I wouldn't be as critical. But GM botched this truck at the factory and the dealer (GM's representative/agent) is continuing the problem with sheer incompetence.

My, my... fever-pitch emotions here! Especially considering (from all appearances) that what has occurred is a design error in the routing of the air intake system.

Shame on GM for adopting such a common-sense approach to the problem! Call out the engineers and the design staff!! Mount all the horses - charge!

I too; would demand a completely redesigned and built air induction system - installed - within the week...

How many of us here on TBN have adopted a "self-designed" and "self-built" modification to our tractors and/or our other equipment that resolves or improves the function of said equipment.

I have - even on my "brand-new" JD 110TLB (that likely cost's as much as that '08 Dmax).

Given that the problem is a "right here - right now" issue; the interim solution that GM has provided does not strike me as unreasonable.

Like many of the folk's here on TBN, I have owned and operated many different brands of cars and trucks. Some have certainly be more reliable than others -

But... there hasn't been a single one of 'em yet that was perfect!

Thats how we made a SRW 5 ton out of a 3.5 ton Mercedes Sprinter... it was rented for a week, with a 5th wheel it couldnt handle: At noon the guy called that this wouldnt work for him: At 4 o clock he went off again with 5 ton leafs under it, he didnt complain but complimented our quick action

the 5.4 liter gas fords are a fine very reliable choice. i had one in a 2002 f250 and got 16mpg, i have one in a 2009 f150 now and get 20mpg. i'd stay away from the ford diesels too, lots of problems with those too. looks like as long as diesels have been around that car makers could build a reliable engine,

I havn't ever owned anything but GM and my dad has owned gm's pretty much since the last 30 years. Now we never really had any bad problems with any of them. My dad owned a 86 truck with the 6.2 diesel and a 1994 with the 6.5 turbo and now owns a 2005 duramax. The only problems he has really had with them is the 6.5 had fuel pump issues since the day he picked it up but finally after a few years cleared up and he still is driving it today. His duramax has had no problems and it is pushing 400+hp. Now he owned a 77 f100 when I was younger and it was all rusted with the floorboards rusted out and it only had 77k miles on it. I can remember him telling me the only reason he still had it was to remind him not to buy another. Now back around 2000 he bought a 1994 toyota 4cly 5 speed 4x4 that had a rebuilt title. He likes the truck has put a lot miles on it but is now sitting with 230k miles on it with a rod knocking. He did buy a 1989 mustang GT about 3 years ago and it is just sitting with problems. My first vehicle was a new 1997 S-10 MARK III with a 2.2 5 speed. Only problem I ever has with it was a fuel pump. Then I bought a New ECSB Z71 that I still own and still only has 30k miles on it and it has a 5.3 auto and I never plan on getting rid of it. No big problems with it. Then I bought a 2003 cavalier with a rebuilt title and the only problem I ever has with it was a fuel pump. Then I bought a 2000 S-10 2wd with a 4.3 5 speed and it was a fun little truck I put a lot of money into it but it was just because I wanted it to suit me nothing that was wrong with it. My lastest I have bought is a 2008 Cobalt 4 door with the 2.2 auto and Although I don't really like the car it hasn't given me any real problems. The way I have grew up is that GM has treated Him and I good so why change.
