Buying Advice It works ok...

I think I’d look at the same size class as your 850, but in a more modern 4wd, HST or shuttle shift package. Something like an L series Kubota or 3 series (or older 4 series) JD.

I have been I just can’t find anything I can afford and for as much as I use it it’s really hard to justify the price. That’s why I wondered about the front mower plus it has blade and cab. Otherwise a sub compact tractor is about all that’s in my budget and I don’t think I need a lot of hp since I don’t use a tiller or anything like that.

At this point it isn’t going to work for me financially so I’m just going to keep the 850 and do the best it can until I am able to afford something else I’ll also keep looking for used ones that may be affordable. Thanks everyone for your help.

I have owned a Kubota BX for about 10 years. I'm now going through the decision process of thinking about stepping up to a slightly larger size, a compact. I've been looking for used ones and they seem pretty hard to find in that size. In the sub compacts they seem very common. If you are looking for a sub, I'd think you wouldn't have any trouble finding one the Quad City area. If you are looking for a compact, they seem harder to find.

Yeah I’m not against a sub compact but it’s not the size of my 850 that’s an issue so I’d really like to stay compact and that’s what makes it harder especially at a price I can afford that’s why I have decided to just keep looking and stay with my 850 for now.

If the 850 works for mowing, I'd stay with that. For snow, what about a plow for your truck? It will beat up the truck, and if you do slide off the driveway, you'll probably total it, but you will stay safe. Plus you can get studded snows for the truck. In low range, it will work pretty well.

Anything you buy as far as a tractor will not be as safe as that truck. I know its not ideal, but it look like you have a challenging driveway. I rather see you walk away from a totaled truck than see you careen down the driveway in an open cab tractor.

I’ve considered a plow for the truck but I park at the bottom of my driveway when I know the weather is bad and I doubt it would plow well from the bottom pushing up and I already leave for work too early to wake up even earlier I have accepted my situation and will continue to seek things that improve it in the meantime I will do the best with what I have. As for open station tractor having a ROPS puts anything ahead of my 850 and I still have to mow my yard so I have accepted the risks involved would be bad way to go but if it happens I guess I have life insurance.
