VERY NICE, Eric!

Wow, it just looks super. And hats off for you having done it yourself! You should be very proud!

I just recently wrapped up the outside shell of a workshop and since I'm now short of time and money, I haven't been able to do much to it the last few weeks. So as often as not, we just go out there and sit in the comfy (salvaged) office chairs, beer in hand and admire our work, happy in the fact that all of the long hot days of work are now behind us!. Looking at the picture of your upstairs with the two chairs, I bet that you've done some of that also! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Again, great job. It really looks sharp!

Absolutly beautiful. A few questions if you don't mind: 1) What did you use for the casing/corner trim/trim board between lap & shakes? Painted cedar, some type of vinyl product, or ?? It looks really good. 2) why no exterior lighting? A nice hammered metal coach light on each side of the tractor door might look really nice and help when pulling in after dark, not to mention the saftey factor. Just don't slap up one of those ugly industral looking motion sensor flood lights, but by the look of your building I can see you already knew that.

Great job. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Care to share your building costs? I'm looking to do a 24X36 tractor palace myself someday. Something tells me the checkwriter will have it down to 24X24 in no time flat. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Lighting is a nice finishing touch... I have also decided
to put up the granite hitching posts with the iron rings
out front on mine ... I figure they will protect the doors
from being backed into...

That's really nice! The finishing touches on the outside make it a very attractive addition for a utility building. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: It\'s finally Done - Shop/Barn/Tractor Palace

Thanks for all the replies, and yes all of the neighbors are asking about my time availability to help them. This darned day job prevents me from taking orders. All of the trim is wood, varying sizes, it was pre-primed pine. The siding is a wood fiber product, and all of the exposed cedar has a colored stain on it.

The total cost is just over $17,000, but I over built it, so you could easily shave a couple of thousand off it. I used all CDX plywood, no MDF, I used 1.25" tongue and groove plywood on the 2nd floor, boxed all the soffits, had heavy duty floor trusses for the 2nd floor, etc. I did not try and get any estimates of what it would have cost to have someone build it, but the roofer usually does custom type homes, and he said it would have easily been $35,000 - $40,000 to have this built.

I have not put any exterior lights on it yet, because I have no power to the building, I use a generator for power. I will bring power in next year, but I am holding out for a backhoe first. I may go ahead and install the lights, because it would really finish off the front. I also have not installed the weather vane yet, we can't decide between a chicken or a horse, and more importantly, I have not decided who is going to install it. I think it would be worth a fresh salmon and a case of beer to have a professional do that. I will try to get some 1st floor pistures next time I am up there.

Re: It\'s finally Done - Shop/Barn/Tractor Palace

Last year when I was looking through other folks buidling projects and talking to my wife about what she wanted. She really liked all the details yours had. So you had set the bar preatty high for me. She also told me I get one out building, it has to be nice, and it has to have a 2nd story, becuase we will need more room than we think. Lots of creative people on this board, and it's great to get ideas /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If you lean toward a professional installation, why not have them make you a tractor to top that weather vane..... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Excellent job. Just think, on those days when it's not nice enough to be outside, you can start roughing in the electric for all the goodies you're gonna need to compliment your tractor as well as all the other things you have planned for the space..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This way next year when you actually get power to the Bldg...you're already done inside.... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

That's why TBN is so great! All these great ideas, I can't believe I didn't think of a tractor weather vane.
