Very nice. Looks like good protection from limbs and small trees. When reading your post about building it, you stated you were thinking rollover. I dont think I'd like to put that to the test with that light of metal, but if you keep most of the rubber on the ground that thing should do everything you are looking for. May have to rehone my poor (very poor) welding skills once I find a bigger machine.

Not so much roll over, as in roll cage type protection, but more worry about somehow tipping the tractor beside a tree, with the tree on my side of the rops and nothing up there to stop a slow speed, low energy tip...as the tree slid down my side of the rops...and my seatbelt held me firmly in position under the tree, as the distance between the tree and seat got smaller and smaller... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif ... with me in between... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I figure the ROPS is the main line of defense if a roll over would occur. Along with the protection from flalling limbs, I am pretty sure if the tractor started a slow roll next to a tree, the light duty fops would stop it. It is rock solid when I climb up on it once in a while and sure feels solid...in any case, I hope to never need it for protection, either from falling limbs or a tip over next to a tree! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I've attached an action shot...well, kinda... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hi Henro,

What about using a meterial like woven shade fabric ? It has different levels of sun blocking, plus you can still see through it. You could even put the 95% material on the top, and use 55% on the sides, and yet still have a safe view of your work.

Henro,

I like your FOPS. It seems well thought out. I noticed in your first photo that there are some gates in the background. Did you happen to make them? If so, could you post some closer photos of them. I am thinking about making some that would be similar.
Thanks,

Re: It\'s not a Canopy, but...

Yes, I made them this spring...

Here are some photos...they work real well. Each one is about 9 feet long. I think I made them from 10' lenghts and just sized them so the cross pieces would reach.

Front view without the man gate...

PS...that stuff is the 1" thick PT wood. I think it is called 5/4...

Re: It\'s not a Canopy, but...

Bolted things together with grade 2 stove bolts from TSC, and use the TSC gate hinge hardware as well.

I am reall happy with the way they turned out and work...
