2009 Mahindra 4110
Been at this for some time now. Pestered some of you with questions off and on. Now is the time to buy. Looked at a 2816, 4110 and 5035 last night. Man that 5035 is big machine! The price was very tempting with $1,000 off becuase it had 50 hours on it. Kind of a demo, they used it to pull stuff around at some tractor pullls. It is a nice machine to be sure but just a little too big for us. I would be okay but it was very intimidating for my wife. My little 5'4" honey loves to bush hog and I just could not see her on that monster. The 2816 is just too small. It would be okay I guess, but on the border for what I want to do. When I walked onto the lot I was coming to see the 4110. That is the model of choice. And although it was tempting the 4110 will work out better. First it will fit in the shop, the 5035 would have to have the ROPS lowered to get in. I have a good friend with a 4110, so his back hoe will fit. I have seen his machine do exactly what I will be doing with mine. We have a good established dealer. Known him a long time. He was the contractor that built our lake 16 years ago. We should have it delivered in 2 - 3 weeks.

Congrats on the decision. I believe the 4110 is/was built by TYM. Is it a current model or a previous year? Also, really what prompted this response is the backhoe thing...if you plan on using the neighbor's, you need to have the dealer put on the frame mount for the BH. You might be interested to know that the frame mount/cost to mount it may be over $1K by itself, but is absolutely necessary. Good Luck! BobG in VA

From the engineer's point of view:
Being a degreed engineer and landowner (multiple) I say buy your tractor for the need.
Do you need 4wd? Are you bushoging or do you need to do alot of heavy loader work also?
How much land do you have to maintain? 5, 10, 50 acres? are you expanding the cleared area you have? land clearing? strategic front end work needed? If you have a really small lot like 2 acres or more land with just a bunch of woods with bushhoggin trails - go for the smallest tractor. If you have heavy 6ft attachment kind of work go for the 5035(well maybe -read on). I'd go for the bigger 5035 since I peeked where you have 80 acres and I believe Mahindra makes that tractor vs TYM or Mitsubishi on the others. Mahindra makes a stout tractor.

Buy your tractor for the need not the shed, not the wife. She will get used to bushhogging on the bigger tractor. I also would consider keeping your other tractor (Ford Jubilee) just for bushogging which tends to add alot of hours on a tractor. But always consider her opinion on whether she wants to operate a new tractor versus the old and her ergonomics.
You may have multiple needs with that parcel of land, projects you have dreamed of, projects yet you and her have not dreamed of.

Cut the engineer, now from the woman's point of view:
This is a large however - Another (exception)option is to buy the 2816 for your wife and buy a 2wd 4025 or 4525series tractor for your other work. Look at these 25 series tractors impressive specs. You may be able to buy aslightly used 2816 from Agricredit repo (watch their interest rate) or a new 2816 gear. I am sure your dealer would give you a good deal on a stripped down 4025 or 4525 series with real remotes. If you need only small loader work consider a 2816 gear w/ loader and a 4025 (no loader) both new versus a new 5035(can't find the specs on the website)with loader - bet the two tractors cheaper than the one. And mommas very happy!
In summary, you may be able to buy a new or used 2816 (w/ a loader)and a new say 4025 for the price of a 5035 4wd and loader, with or without selling your jubilee.

If your budget and need is between 20 and 25K look at both of these options.
If your need is more, but your budget is betwen 15 and 20K serious look at what you can do with a 2wd 25 series tractor. If you have lived with a jubilee this would be a step up. Mahindra makes the 25 series.

Hope this really helps you.
Regards
Michelle
