Just a quick note for all you folks with 3/4 and 1ton trucks together with whatever size trailers/tractors that you put on the trailers. I was at Harbor Freight yesterday and picked up a 12 ton bottle jack on sale for $30....I've got an F350 diesel and tried to jack up the rear (empty bed) with the pathetic jack that was included under the seat...what a pain...I put the bottle jack under it today and effortlessly took it off the ground...not a sermon, just a thought for Christmas. Merry Christmas to all of you! BobG in VA

Another though about bottle jacks. I used to carry one and found out that it was too tall to fit under the axle when the tire was flat....not a sermon, just a thought....

Good Evenin Ron,
Bob must have one of the short ones ! ;):)

I've seen that happen with travel trailers, too. The ones I've encountered had tandem axles, so I was able to put blocks under a wheel, pull forward onto the blocks and then get the jack under the axle. I guess you could do the same with a single axle RV or pickup.

ditto that. the jack with my F450 needs about a foot of lumber to be able to get the truck to move any.. and more to actually lift it enough to get a tire on it..

I also got a bottle jack for mine.

Cute...I think you'll note the original thought was on an F350...sprung pretty high although it is stock...on flat ground, I had to "unscrew" the top of the jack till it was all the way out and then had to pump a few times to get it to contact under the rear axle...so I guess you'd have to say I have a long one....The thought on the tandem axle...ie. the "how to" is very informative..that's how I change the front tires on my Farmall tricyles..put a couple of 2x6s under one side pull up on it to lift the other tire off the ground...I suppose you could actually use (2) 2x's under your truck flat, pull up on them and then stick yours in...BobG in VA

But will it fit with a tire deflated??? MikeD74T

i know mine will. the stock jack, fully extended just barely made contact with the truck at all.. let alone lift it...

The stock jack in my 1/2 ton bent while changing a front tire. i had the truck up and the flat off and it started to lean. Got the spare on and a few lugs hand tight before she toppled.

An 8 ton bottle jack is in the tool box now.

the stock jacks they provide nowadays are funny.. the one in my 450 is the same size as my 250, and the frame on the 450 sets so much higher off the ground that it ain't even funny. I think a ford engineer should have to drive out and change your tire with the tools he designed for the truck when ever a situation like that occurs.. :) ( substitue whatever brand needed inthat last phrase.. I'm sure it happens in other brands as well.. )

big rims and tires = more ground clearance.
