Wonder where I got that golf ball size piece of Gold. Your description wouldn't be that big would it? Pretty amazing stuff.

According to a couple of tables, gold weighs 19.28 grams per cubic centimeter, so close to 2 1/2 cubic centimeters would be the volume.

Webb reaches its final destination, 1 million mile Earth orbit. We'll likely receive our first unfiltered image of the universe this summer.

I've been following this since launch. In times like these it reinforces my faith in our technological abilities. I'm very anxious to see the information and pics the scope can gather. Still incredible that it has had no failures!!!

When I start to comprehend the size of the universe, understanding what a light year and the distances implied, hurts my brain. When humans are taught that earthly distances can be far, distances in the universe are hard to imagine.

One good thing I recall Carl Sagan did was to get NASA to program one of the Voyager probes to turn back towards the earth and take a photo of the earth from the limits of the solar system. You see how tiny the earth and even the sun is and it gives you a perspective on the vastness of the universe...

I am glad to see it has gone without a hitch so far. So many things had to go right, and that is very impressive, especially in the unforgiving climate of space...

As a person who enjoys history, we must recall all the spacecraft failures that have occurred and lessons leaned. Its because of these attempts, that machines are improved on. I recall three astronauts who died in there Apollo capsule while doing preflight training.

It will be interesting to see if Webb can live up to the bar Hubble has set, though Hubble has been serviced a few times, it has still been an amazing scientific tool.
Webb's infrared imaging and much larger mirror will enable it to unveil a lot of wonders hidden in dusty nebulae and other obscured objects that Hubble was unable to image.
