Thnx Aaron... aside from the 'bricks site, I've spent a few hours hanging at Brickboard.com, both good resources.
I left "olde Volvo" out of my original post.... as I knew it might create some drift in the thread..... most everyone who encountered those vintages has a soft spot for them. I also have a '93, 940.... been off the road waiting for me to get off my duff and deal with replacing some fuel lines. The 940 is what most would consider a better highway car than the 240 (smoother ride).... but I seem to prefer the 240 all around - partly because I prefer stick to auto, but there is more to it..... didn't Thoreau say something about "Simplify......" a while ago...... I seem to really like the simplicity of the 240s. Those iterations of V's are tough... all machines can wear out, but I've been amazed at what I've seen some guys put them through.
Back to metallurgy for a minute.... at my favourite shop, when I see Volvos getting parted out, I'm always amazed when the front 1/4 panels are pulled... the underlying metal usually looks virtually pristine - pretty amazing for 15+ year old cars here... Canadian winters are rough on sheet metal.
Also meet some cool folks at that shop, one guy this week with a pretty modified 740 turbo... Tool n Die guy..... had a cool discussion with him about working on 30-40 ton automotive dies..... but I should leave that for another thread.
There is something pretty addictive about these RWD Volvos.... they do get under your skin. I notice that people do seem to turn over (owning that is) the FWD/AWD V's faster... guess the marketing works.
(Some things I do like about the new engines.... the 20valve white blocks have something like a 6 litre (US quart, give or take) oil pans).
Your V90 is a nice ride, they were the pinnacle of what Volvo did with RWD. If not that, I'd like to find a 940 with a manual trani... I only became aware of them about 2 years ago.... I was thinking they might have been Europe only, but according to my wizard buddy, they did bring a few into Canada.... maybe someday.....
Back to thread - JB is holding well tonight, bonus running points... we had pulled the intake to clean the problem area.... the new intake gasket seems to really agree with the B230F... no major driveability issues b4, just a bit smoother and more responsive now. Was running just under 8L/100 km before, will be nice to see what it is now.... not shabby for a car (knock wood) with about 300,000 miles on it.
Just like tractors... always a good feeling to get some olde quality metal running back like it should be..... Rgds, Dave.
