I had a 455 with a 60 inch deck, before getting a 1026r with a 60 inch deck. The 1026r mowes every bit as good as the 455 did.

Yup, same here. I was concerned too, tractorworks. But I not only always wanted a SCUT or CUT, I have a ton of work to do now that the kids are grown - brush clearing, landscaping, etc. - and a L&G tractor just ain't makin' it. I rented a bobcat once - that was a huge pain in the arse, what with all the scheduling, unfamiliarity with the machine (low productivity), etc.

A pleasant surprise was the mulch kit I had put on the 60" mower.....it mulches great! Shreds grass to a very fine fluffy mix - I have not had to fertilize the lawn this summer, nor have to drag a bagger around & dump clippings. What a great deal!

It is true the 60" drive-over deck can not have a center anti-scalp roller, so if you have a bumpy yard it will scalp. The solution there is to drag/roll your yard or, for rough cut fields use a 3ph mower.

So, in my view, the gain far outweighed the little pain. The 800 lb lift capacity front loader is all I need for my smaller property landscaping jobs.

Best of luck,

DeereMann

Trying to get a couple neighbors to get 4wd tractors. One of them lost control (traction on rear wheels) going down the hill behind his house, fell off and got injured. My next door neighbor and I have both experienced forgetting to put ours back in 4wd and skidding down the hill.

I'm wondering when JD went to the fast idle (1575 on my 1025R). Did they do this for tier 4 because of the exhaust soot collector?

What does your manual say about the idle speed? It may be about 1500 now, but you should be able to set it back to about 1,000 after break in. That's what I did on my 4010. On the 1025R, it says 1575 rpm, probably because of the exhaust gas soot capture.

Ralph,

My 2012 JD 1026R is not EPA IV and does not have a soot collector, yet "low" idle is also 1575 rpm. I suspect it has to do with the poorer combustability of indirect injection in little engines at low speed idle (700 rpm). Direct injection engines do not have that issue.

btw - I must have screwed up trying to add the tractor photo to my signature. Will have to go try again.!

Very nice....

And congrats DeereMann

Thanks, L.I.W. - I am a Madison ex-patriot, myself.

I want your tractor (& more acreage) when I grow up! What a beautiful rig you have.

You may be right about the combustion at low speeds. Don't think my 1025 has a soot filter either.

Had an Alfa Duetto once with a "Junior (1300 cc)" engine with 2 dual throat carburetors. It idled at 700 rpm. It would not pass the NJ emissions test. The ones brought over directly in 1969 had fuel injection. I had to get an exemption, and could because it was brought back by a GI from Europe. Of course, carbs would be absolutely terrible mixing devices at low rpm, particularly when sucking air through 4 throats at 40 mm each.

Too bad they didn't go to direct injection.

Yes, agree. A number of small diesel engine manufacturers have thrown in the towel with EPA and have changed their indirect injection engines to direct injection for emissions reduction - despite the higher cost. The other benefits are easier starting, better combusion, lower fuel consumption, more power, etc. etc.

But - small diesel are principally made only by Japanese engine manufacturers (Kubota, Yanmar), so they make decisions on this based on total, global market sales volumes. I don't know what the U.S. demand is, but it must be significant with all the skid steer loaders, tractors, & other small industrial & commercial machinery.

Anyway, my little IDI engine runs just great for me, at a good price. And it sure uses a lot less fuel than my previous JD 445 tractor with 22hp fuel-injected Kawasaki engine.

Awesome. You should be happy with the turf tires. I never have traction issues with mine unless it's really muddy. Then you probably don't want to be digging anyway.

grats.
