After my last project, I noticed a serious drip, dribble coming from under the tractor. Hydraulic/trans fluid. It seems to be at the seam connection between the trans and the rear I guess. In front of the shifter, but behind the 4wd actuator. It looks like one of the places where the tractor can be split. Right at the bottom is where it is leaking. Why would this start suddenly? Bolts seem tight. Would the gasket suddenely fail?
How does one replace this? I had help replacing the clutch, so splitting isn't out of the question. But how does it come apart and more importantly what has to be done to slide back together? Do I put in a new gasket, or go with a silicone? I appreciate any help!

The response is overwhelming. LOL. Just wondered about anything inside that I should be careful of as I pull apart.

OK. I knew there would be something. Input shaft was pulled far enough out that I am guessing the pto gear fell off in the back. What is the easiest way to get to it to put it back on? Do I need to split again to pull the shaft out far enough to replace it, or can I pull for space in the back?

I dont think that any gear fell off the shaft. If I recall correctly, the input shaft has a splined end that a coupler connects to and then connects to another shaft. This fell off on mine a year ago. I went in through the rockshaft housing under the seat. Not hard to do but heavy and I replaced the gasket there too.

Part 1 in the attached photo.

Thank you for the info. That is what I was thinking of doing also. Now I will.
Gives me an idea what I am looking for.
Thanks again!

Now this is getting silly. I have the rockshaft unbolted, and most of the lines off. But I can't lift it off. I have tapped on it and even used my cherry picker, and it won't budge. Three bolts on one side and 4 on the other. It looks like there are alignment dowels. Frustrating.

Make sure all steel lines and linkage are disconnected. There might be two bolts on the back where the top link attaches that need to be removed.

I'll bet you are right. I will check.

Update. The dowels mean that you have to pull exactly straight up in my case. Once I did that, and some tapping with a large hammer, it popped off. Pulled the top shaft out of the back, and wife's hand was small enough to reach around the ring and pinion and find the coupler. Slapped it back together, and all is well. The hydraulic lines were the worst part of the project. One was really tough to get to, and there was some swearing trying to get it back on. Used the tractor last night, and all is well. There is one cracked hydraulic line that I will have made during the week.
