Oil bath air cleaner i took off today... (i wish i could modify this to an air filter...)

IMG_3721.jpgIMG_3722.jpg

the oil bowl is easy to clean. but the metal interior???? do i really have to soak this thing???

   / JD 2030 Tractor SERIAL #? #43
Well, yes. It is a filter element doing its job of filtering dirt. See my post #39. The filter element is removable for cleaning. (Item #8)

Yes, but the Air Intake pipe plumbing is different for the various engines. A picture of the piping layout would help clarify matters?

According to JD Parts - Oil Bath was optional on Spanish-built 2030 & 2130 WITH S/n 50000 +

2030, 2130 Tractors (s.n. 50000- )(Built in Spain)

my set up is pretty much your diagram.. i'll take some pics. any pics etc.. on how to get that filter element out. and what's the best solution to clean the mesh element.. tx

bodin
I think you can see how it comes apart in reply #39 (post by spanner).
Or do you think that is not your air filter system?

   / JD 2030 Tractor SERIAL #? #47
I think photo from 2020 parts catalog will be closer to correct air cleaner than the photo spanner posted for an oil bath AC for 2030 built for Spain sales. The mess screen isn't designed to be removed to clean. To clean mesh one needs to submerge canister & mesh in solvent as a unit.

Hi Jim. Not that it affects me in any way - But the Parts Catalogue says "Built in Spain" rather than "Built for Spain". That would be made for general sales, maybe not N.America?

The filter mesh is available as a seperate Part Number from the 'can' on that particular model which is why I suggest it must have been replaceable, therefore removable as 'beenthere' has noted.

Bodin: As far as washing the mesh - Any clean solvent - Parts cleaner, Brake cleaner, White Spirits, Kerosene, Spray-Gun Cleaner, even petrol if you have nothing else, would do the job.

I'm interested to see a pic or two of the air intake plumbing from Bodin as there are a couple of other Oil Bath filter set-ups listed.

You brought up a good point. OP's serial tag states Dubuque,Ia not Getafe,Spain. Mesh in OP's air cleaner that in his photo is not easily removed.

His engine S/N stated made in Dubuque Iowa (USA)

That's because I'm nearly 100% positive it's not a 2030!!!!!!!!!! Read my #4 post on this thread Z5 does your 2030 have 4219 on engine SN tag?

I'll check it later today. I have the stamped number recorded, but not the complete tag numbers. Also my engine S/N does not match my frame S/N

the 2020 diagram Tx jim submitted is spot on... unfortunately i believe he's correct "to clean mesh one needs to submerge canister & mesh in solvent as a unit"

spanner, i'll get u a pic air intake plumbing shortly.. tx for everyone's input!

Actually one doesn't have to submerge canister in solvent to get mesh clean spraying with solvent then blowing with compressed air will suffice but submerging will get it cleaner.

Good pics!

The significant items to me are the High-Rise air intake at the manifold end and the single bend hose connecting that to the cross-pipe.

Does tend to look more like the 2020 set-up than any of the 2030's :scratchchin:

Air intake pipe(T23611) appears in both 2020 & 2030 parts catalog.

looks like this is a 2020 by the numbers... maybe it just has a 2030 hood?

On a side note: i'm changing the tachometer/hour meter... where does the tachometer cable connect near the engine?? thanks!!

   / JD 2030 Tractor SERIAL #? #59
Tach cable attaches to RH side of flywheel housing under battery box & drives from end of camshaft. I agree I have thought it was a 2020 since near the beginning of this thread.

It does. But, I think my thinking was - it doesn't get connected to an oil bath on a 2030, unless it was built in Spain ?

Whereas it does connect to an o/b on the 2020.
