Hi,

I live in central Michigan, and am looking to replace my JD318 and Ford 8n with a CUT. Been looking at the JD2210, but wondering if a good used 4100-4300 might be better.

I have about 5 acres, currently mow 2, would like to mow 3-4, and brush hog the rest. Also will use for snow removal (250 ft drive) and simple landscaping/dirt moving. Want HST, FEL, 60 inch MMM which are all avail on the 2210, but I want this tractor to be able to handle a 48-60 inch brush hog, and possibley a disk and backblade as well.

Is the 2210 tooo small/light to handle these 3ph tools well? I like the 2210's small size for mowing/maneuverability, but don't want to be too small...

Also, any issues or pros/cons with the history of these models, or suggestions of other models or makes I should be considering?

Any thoughts any one has would be ap[preciated. Thanks much.

I used to have an old ford, and based on my feelings of 'wimpiness' or 'size envy' when I switched to a sub cut, I would think the higher stance of the 4000 series would be worth the additional money - better brush hogging, more lift clearance for a disk or dirt plow, and it simply looks and feels more substantial. The 2210 is a wonderful tractor, but it just seems kindof small.....

I've a 4010. It'd do what you want and save some over a 2210 and a lot vs. a 4110. The 4010 has more clearance than a 2210, but the non-folding ROPS isn't any higher. This is a plus for going underneath trees.

The 2210 is being replaced by the 2305... The 4010-4115 are being replaced by the 2320 and 2520. The 2305 isd juat now hitting dealers, the other models should arrive this fall. If you think you will want the new machines, you might wait a bit...

But, in the meantime, I would suggest looking at Kubota's 'B' Series. Lightweight excellant mowers with lots of loader strength as well. They have solid designs and are wellestablished in their Hydros (lots of manufacturers have added hydros lately, but theie dealers may not be as up to speed on them as those that have had them for many years...)

Finally NH has their TC24-26 lines. Great size, excellant visibility.

All in all there arer lots of nice options in a small CUT that you really should explore before signing off on a subCUT.

My JD dealer says the 2210 is by far the biggest seller on his lot and from the looks of his lot I believe it. He carries about 6 or 8 of them all the time compared to 1 or 2 (or 0) of anything else. The 2210 does an amazing amount of work in a very small package and is a great value.

OK, here's the cheap advice part: if you haven't done it already, go drive one and then a 4000 series or similar. The weight and general heft of the bigger machine is notable. If your land is a bit rough, I think you'll be happier on the heavier tractor, and sitting up above it all a bit more will also be a good thing.

Also, I find the maneuverability of the 4110 to be quite good, very tight turning radius and even split brake pivoting if you want (or can).

It does cost a bit more, but how many of these are you going to buy in the next five years? That's sort of the way I looked at my purchase -- results may vary. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Check the weights. I think the 4010 and 4110 are the same weight as the 2210, about 1400 # tractor only.

Jump up to the 4210, and you double the weight.

4210 is the smallest mid-frame tractor, not small-frame. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

My brother bought a 2210. He loves it. The only concern i have about it is the low clearance and that the hydraulic couplings and filter look pretty vulnerable.

I think it is safe to say that the SubCUTs are best at finish lawn mowing and landscaping. If you are gonna venture into the wild, a small cut is much better. But even then, get skid plates!
