JD 2210 or 4000 series?

I was commenting on Hypernix's comments at the top of page 2.

The real differences come with the jump to the 4210, a little more than double the weight of a 2210, 4010.

Does the 4010 have steering brakes? And also, what is the 7-iron mower? Thanks again.

I want to thank everyone for their comments and feedback. I think the additional size/weight/clearance of the 4010/4110 is better for brush hogging, and clearing some areas to make new lawn. My only concern is if the 2210/2305 would be noticeable better for mowing lawn... lighter, more maneuverable, etc.??

As I can get Ford employee pricing (6%), I should also look at the NH TC/TZ models, though I like the JD over both the NH and Kubotas.

Thanks again so much for all the feedback. This is a great onloine community. I will keep you all posted as my search continues...

I mow my 2 acre lawn with a 4110 (60" deck & power vac system) - it does an awesome job. Filled tires and no visible lawn damage or ruts after a full mowing season.

I had a X585 and traded-up to the 4110. Maneuverability is great, nice tight turns and there's no lockout switch for the mower if you want to go in reverse (with the mower still on) so in that respect it's actually faster than the 585 in some parts of my yard that require alot of back and forth to maneuver around. If you like to change the cutting height often that is a PITA on the 4110 - no easy dial like on the 585.

I can't speak for the 2210/2305 but I was pleasantly surprised at the cut quality and speed on the 4110.

The 4x10 series have steering brakes. They're actually usable compared to the ones on Kubotas or other tractors where they often place them above and beyond the HST forward pedal: can't brake while on the HST pedal unless you're a contortionist. Hit the brakes, and they all go out of cruise control; so that won't free your foot. Tried it on a Kubota. It worked, but the tractor stopped with the cruise flipped out. Of course, it'll flip out on a 4x10, too, but you can keep your other foot on the HST. To have turning brakes on other tractors, you apparently have to go to a shift type transmission.

I generally use the steering brakes for when I put too much down force on the FEL. Can put the FEL in float, and brakes generally aren't needed. Could use the brakes to make very tight turns like at the end of garden rows, just like a big tractor.
