JD 2210 or 4000 series?

countryacres,

( I too considered a JD 2210 or 4110 , both the same in size as far as I can see but found out that the 2210 athough 23hp vs 20 hp on the 4110 )

The 2210 is a SubCUT while the 4110 is a CUT. The 4110 has a larger frame, more weight and bigger tires (which gives a heck of a good ride when mowing the lawn! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif). The engine used in the 2210 and the 4110 is exactly the same engine, just rated at different RPM: 2600 for the 4110 and higher for the 2210!

Yeah -- what is the deal with that horsepower rating thing. The smaller 2210 is rated at 23HP while the larger 4110 is at 20HP? Is it just that they set the rating at different RPMs or is there more to it? My dealer sort of winced and said "wellllll - HP numbers in tractors don't mean much." /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Would like to hear what others think about this.

I guess I need a cutnpaste answer for this...

SubCUTS are all being rated at a higher engine speed than CUTs. The same seems to true no matter what brand. This could be because they are used primamrily for mowing and that is the speed they will be used at. It could be because they compete more closely with gas LG nmachines which all seem to have overblown Hp ratings. It could be because the other subCUT brands are doing it...

I am really leaning toward the 4110 and plan on a purchase soon , I will use it mostly for mowing but also use the fel and would like to get a BH down the road ,I just want to make sure this tractor has enough power to dig and also what size bucket do I get? I have mostly clay where I live although I plan on using it other places. Thanks

countryacres,

I think you will love the 4110! It is truly a great small CUT.

The BH that JD offers for the 4110 is the 46. It's a small backhoe so you must take your time when using it. I used mine over the summer to remove several stump and was very pleased with the results. The 46 is little "jerky" at RPM higher than 2000 so you have to feater those controls if you don't want to shake yourself and the tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Digging power should not be a problem, I often lift the back of the tractor when I'm not quite handling it right. A backhoe has a much bigger learning curve than a FEL IMHO to get it to work well.
I got the 16" bucket with mine. Others here have been saying that the 9' bucket sometimes is hard to empty (dirt gets clogged up in there).

I have a 4110 with a 46 BH. My area is clay also, and I have been very happy with the combination. I have the 12" bucket which seems to have worked out well. It's large enough to dig a hole, but also narrow enough to dig a trench. It works well for digging out stumps too. I was talked out of getting the small bucket by the combined wisdom of TBN and they steered me right for my uses.

Hey thanks for the advice on the 4110 and bucket size guys , it was helpful info.

The sub CUT and CUT generalizations don't apply. The 4110 is only 150 # heavier than a 2210, which is the same weight as a 4010. The 4010 engine is rated at a higher rpm than the 2210.

The 4110 is a good machine if you need backhoe capability in a smaller (but bigger than BX) machine.

Ralph,

Countryacres thought that the 2210 and the 4110 were "the same size as far as he could see". In real life this is not the case. I was meerly trying to let him know that he was comparing apples to oranges! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Now the weight difference between the 2210 (1300 lbs) and the 4110 (1579 lbs) is 279 lbs, not 150! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

BTW: When do the generalizations apply? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
