JD 2240 starting issue

My JD 2240 won't start!
It has always been a faithful starter, never needing ether.
It has not run out of fuel; has 3/4 tank full.
It cranks but won't offer to fire.
I plugged in the engine block heater (have never needed to use it before) but that didn't help either.
I'm not sure what to look at next.

Have you recently changed the fuel filter, or crack anything open on the tank side of the injection pump??? They will not start if you get a little air in the fuel lines. The mechanical fuel pump to the right of the starter could have gone bad. You might crack open the fuel line at the injection pump, then pump the hand lever on the fuel pump to make sure there is no air in it. My 2240 has a solenoid on the injection pump that needs 12v to open up and allow fuel to flow. You could check to see if the wire came off, and that you are getting voltage there when you turn the key on. Solenoid could be rusted shut or bad, too.. Could be a real plugged fuel filter. Last, make sure she is getting air... no new critter nests anywhere. Have fun...!!!!!!

Good thought on the fuel solenoid. But I thought the 2240 had a manual pull fuel shut off and if so the cable on that may have slipped or come off.

Some JD's have the manual, and some have the solenoid. Mine's a 1981 and has the solenoid.

Nothing has been changed recently. it was running four days ago like normal.
I will check out all these thoughts tomorrow.

You have a unique 2240 as fuel control solenoid isn't listed in parts catalog for 2240 SN >350,000- only kill cable. 2240's I sold new fuel was controlled by kill cable

Does any smoke come out of muffler while attempting to starts engine? Is fuel shut off lever on IP fully open? Have you opened bleeder on fuel filter to check for presence of air in filter?

I see Tulsa OK for location, I was going to say maybe fuel gelling, but I doubt it has been cold enough for that. It sounds like a lack of fuel issue.
