Sorry. not sure why I posted that 3 times but after reading 2305's links just Butter me stupid not sure what happened to the reliable and dependable massey 240
JD 2305 starts, but won't keep running.

Well the tractor is now running... I double checked the diodes and the second one up is the one I tested (wiring looked the same as the V4 diode) so I tested the wrong one. I tested the V4 this time and it tested bad. So I found the v7 diode and put it in place of the V4 and it ran perfectly. I did manage to buy the selenoid for $38.00 w/free shipping so I am not out too much. Thank you so much for the help, I would have been out a lot more money and would still be working on it or would have had to take it to the dealer at $75.00/hr.

Dealer can't seem to find the V4 diode, any suggestions as where to purchase one?

I had a similar problem. My 2305 would not keep running unless I held the key in the start position for longer than usual - 5 or 10 seconds. I had a lot of dust/dirt by the V4 diode so I sprayed the harness with a bit of water to rinse it. Once it dried, I removed the diode and tested it. It tested ok but had some dirt near the top of the connectors. I cleaned it off and cleaned out the socket. It may be coincidence but it is starting properly now like it used to.

And one month later it is still starting like new again. It makes me wonder if dirt/corrosion may have lead to diode failure for others.
