Oil & Fuel JD 2320 Maintenance

Jriffe108,

How much time did it take you to remove everything to get to the access door. I will be doing this maintenace and dred the fact that I have to remove a lot of things from the machine to do this.

T-Bow, it takes me about 3 hours to remove the floor, pull back the skirt, and grease the Zerk and put it all back together. Of course, I have done it several times over the years, and that time includes a couple of cold ones to keep me cool and collected and not yell  to much at the dumb designer who overlooked this important maintenance point.

Tbow,

Approximately 2 hours if undistracted. It's not really hard to do but time consuming. The hardest part for me was disconnecting the parking brake and cruise control assemblies to enable full removal of the lower dash.

Once you fully disassemble and remove the access plate, you may be able to only loosen the lower dash assembly and still reach the zerk.

I will include pics when the finally cut an access hole for the lower dash. I haven't decided whether to just holesaw it or actually cut a square opening. The hole needs to be right at the edge of the dash panel which will weaken it a little and will require a long shaft to access the zerk.

I will search for a rubber grommet plug that is suitable size to keep it clean.

Jriffe108 and BigD9,

Thanks for the information. Now I know that it shouldn't take me all day to do this.

Jriffe108, please post what you cut on the lower dash when you do this so I can see if I want to follow your lead of just remove a lot of stuff next time.

I have a 2320 made last September. I dont need to take the floor off. I just need to remove the throttle and remove the ten screws that hold the upper and lower plastic dashboard shrouds. I can then get at the metal access plate and get to the zerk with a thin grease gun tip I had to bend. I imagine next time I can grease the front u-joint in a half hour. Here is a link to my post from last week. http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/2761271-post50.html

PS: Apparently there may be different procedures depending on your model year. Good luck

What was JD thinking when they slopped this together? When was the last time you greased a U joint on a car?
