Recently purchased a new 2520. One issue that I have with it is that the removable pins to fold the ROPS down are so miss aligned that there is no way to put both sides back in. My local dealer has tried and couldn't get them in either. I had to drive the first one out with a punch and once out you could see that the alignment was way off. My dealer said that there is a JD service notice about this and that they are waiting on a response from JD. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how long did it take to resolve? Did they end up installing a new ROPS or did they do something to the existing ROPS to correct this? Thanks, Ken

My 2520 is a early build, and my Rops pins go in with no effort at all. They allign perfectly, and are very easy to put back in. They drop in, requiring no pushing at all.

Maybe not everyone but I also had the problem. I reamed out the holes.

A round file worked wonders on my 3320.

I bought my 2520 new. I can see where my ROPS pins were hit with a hammer a few times, however, they go in and out easily. Therefore, I assume that the dealer reamed out the holes a little before delivering it.

I had the same problem on my 5103 and JD put one pin in it and drilled the other side out so it would line up. Works good now, they both slide in and out easily..... Bull

Thanks for the responses, I will likely end up fileing or drilling out. Just giving the dealer a chance to do something first. Seems to me that when you chose a JD, you are paying top dollar for well engineered eqipment and items such as this should be checked and corrected before it is sold to a customer.

There is another way...

Had the same problem with my 2520 when I bought it.
When I told my salesman about it, he was pretty upset saying that this is supposed to be checked before the machine leaves.

The service dept tech loosened all the ROPS bolts at the fenders, then moved/twisted the ROPS around until the pins worked easily - then re-tightened/torqued.

The dealer tried that trick of loosing the ROPS from the frame but they couldn't get it to move enough to make it line up. The holes for the pin are about 1/4" off from lining up.

A 1/4" is too much. You mean with the pin started in on one side the other side is mismatched by that much? On my tractor you could barely even feel the misalignment, and a tap with a hammer would knock the pin in or out. As I said a round file took care of that.

Good Dealers do this. But everyone can have a off day.

Yes 1/4", It took a lot of hitting to drive the pin out of it. When it finally came out it flew across my shop due to hitting it so hard, a lot of spring tension! When you look through the outer hole the inner looks like a 1/4 moon sitting there.

I used a dremel as well. It made short work of it. Had to do both sides.

Doesn't it rattle now that you guys bored the holes out bigger?
Mine doesn't rattle much at all.

thats too bad.

My pins are still snug. I only took enough off with the file to be able to get the pins in and out without the use of a hammer. I still have to give them a pop with the hand to get them out.

Seems to only rattle when I am driving at a good clip on hard pavement, I'm sure it is because of the rear tire chains shaking the tractor.

Both of mine won't go all the way in to get the clip lock on.
One or the other.

Reaming one side out is on my list of things to do.
It goes in part way and stays, so that's been good enough.

If my garage door went up one more inch (without a stick assist) and there was no door opener to destroy I'd leave the Rops up all the time.
