My first brand new to me JD. It's a leftover 2010.Came with a grader blade and finish mower. 27 hours on it now. I'm impressed with the power this tractor has. Any tips on maintaining, operation, problems you guys have had? John Deere 001.JPGJohn Deere 004.JPG

Congrats on your "new" 2520 Pit Man.
I agree with v8only about the tech manual for sure. It's an invaluable tool. The CD version is quite a bit cheaper than the book.
With only 27 hours I would assume nothing has been done maintenance wise,so it is probably still in line for the initial 50 hour deal. Couple things. Does your tractor have the newer lower link 3PT arms? If it doesn't you may be able to get a dealer to work with you in getting the correct arms.

There has been quite a few owners complaining about the fuel tank not being centered in the hood opening, thus causing the hood to catch the gas cap if you're not careful.
There are a few different "self fixes" that have worked really well.

Some owners have had problems with the 2520 popping out of 4WD when carrying a heavy FEL load going down an incline.

You can search the forums or maybe even use Google and you will definitely get answers.:)

John Deere 002.JPG Yes it looks like it does.
Do you guys have any suggestions on how to re-route these hydraulic lines? I don't like the way they hang down.John Deere 003.JPG

You are missing the wire hoop the holds the hoses up. It mounts to the floorboard.

As kennyd mentioned, there is a bracket (hoop) that holds the hydro lines.
If you'd rather not get the OEM part, you may be able to fabricate something similar:).

Congrats Pit Man, It looks sweeeet (but then...I am kind of partial to good looking 2520's). I am also envious of your finish mower. Is that a 72"?

In addition to the previous comments, I would also suggest a ballast box or some type of additional weight in the rear especially if you are doing any work with the FEL. Also in looking at your pics, it may appear the dealer forgot a linchpin when attaching the mower. Maybe it is just an illusion in the picture, but I would hate to see the pin come out for you.

And as v8 said...have fun!

Congratulations on the purchase. It is definitely a powerful machine - I love mine.

- +1 on getting the wire bracket for the hydro hoses.
- I *believe* the 4WD disengagement issue is the result of improper operation of the engagement level. Be careful when engaging 4WD that you don't press the level too far down. Doing so can allow the small lock ball that holds the lever in place to "pop out". At that point, only the spring will engage the lever, and it doesn't hold it securely.
- Take note of how your FEL stand moves when using the loader (you'll need a helper) by pressing it down against the ground and also lifting. There are a couple of different versions of the stand, and the newer one addresses some clearance issues where the stand would rub. Of course, it has its own possible clearance issues (mine was rubbing against the bottom of the front bumper bracket and scratching the stand, the dealer was able to adjust it and put a rubber cushion on the stand).
- The fuel tank issue is less of "not being centered" and more of "the brackets aren't sturdy enough to hold it over time". Be careful when opening and closing the hood. If the hood does not currently rub the fuel cap, it likely will soon. And if you try to muscle it open and drop it to lock closed, you're going to bend your hood. There are some self fixes that involve loosening all of the bolts holding the tank (when it's empty) and shimming a couple of points with washers.

Be safe - read about how to operate the machine and each attachment safely. Understand what happens to the center of gravity as you put attachments on or take them off and how this effects the potential for rollover or traction. Understand whether or not you should load your rear tires for traction ballast and be absolutely certain to have counterweight ballast on the rear when using the loader.

Above all else, buy a set of Artillian Pallet Forks. I never take mine off of my machine. I think I used the bucket once this year to move a yard of mulch. Other than that, all lifting / moving has been done via my forks. I absolutely can't believe how useful they are. And, on that machine, with that loader, you can easily lift about 1,000 lbs of materials.

I think the hose loop is supposed to come with the loader. Check with your dealer and see if they forgot it. Also, try routing the hoses below the loader cross frame. It seems odd, but I've found that running through the loop and under the frame seems to keep the hoses higher than routing over the frame. That said, most people seem to route them over the frame as you have them.

Yes it should come with the hoop. But I recommend pulling the line up from the loader side.

Hey Doug ,nice eye and thanks for catching that. It is a 72" mower and does pretty darn good in the heavy pasture grass I've tried. I'm lucky that pin didn't come out.

Pit,

May I ask at what height you are cutting your pasture grass at? We have a Woods 60" and our 2520 handles it no problem. Was curious if you experienced the same with the 72".

Thanks

Thanks for the tip kennyg. I also added a large and thick spiral wrap around all four hoses together for a little extra protection. I'll take a picture tonight if i remember.

Enjoy and have fun. Welcome to the deere familly.
