3-Point Hitch JD 2640 with1000rpm pto

Jim,
I remember when the 2640 was introduced and had a 3020 at the time. Thought I wanted the newer 2640 being young the new stuff always seems more appealing. With hindsight being 20/20 which do you think was a better tractor overall? Looking back the 3020 seemed to be every bit as good as out 4020s'.

With the Dubuques and Mannheims built for European and the North American markets. There was a variety of pto's . Hydraulic independent, two stage clutch live . Some even had a PTO disconnect way back on the left side of the transmission case . Farther back than the gear shift used with the two stage clutch.
So unless you check through the parts book, it isn't safe to say what the tractor maybe optioned with.

I grew up on a pair of late model 3020D's and wouldn't have traded them for anything Mannheim or Dubuque turned out.

Could you reference this parts book for the 2640? I couldn't find anyting but the 540 and 540/1000 offerings for this tractor at JD parts online, I am curious about this.

Yeah but when you are young the new stuff just seems better than a four year old tractor. Our 3020D with syncrorange had 15.5 38's, I could use that from time to time today. Great tractor in my book.

As far as I remember all 3 cyl/4 cyl Dubuque/Mannheim tractors had the pto disconnect by LH heel while sitting in the seat. 6 cyl didn't have the pto disconnect on LH side

Ours both came with 16.9x34's and one was later swapped out to 18.4x34's. Made a different tractor out of it. Did a decent job with an IH 720 4-18" plow.

No left hand disconnect on my 1640.
Unless you check a parts book, the 40 series can be a real mix and match series. Half way through the 40's there was a serial number break and all production was moved to Mannheim.

Don't know what tanget you are pursuing ? Go back and read my reply. I said go and check the parts book to see what the tractor may have been optioned with? Is that some sort of sin or mis-direction?

Reread my post #7 where I did check JD parts online to werify that the 540 and 540/1000 were the only options available. I was curious if there was more information than contained in the online parts listings. If there is more information that would be good to know.
