Man, that would be my luck in regards to the muffler. Sorry it happened to you.

Anxious to "hear" (pun intended) your solution Greg!!!! :D

I find mine away louder since I ran it out the back looking forward to see how you deal with it being so loud.

I used the tractor while cleaning horse stalls today, its not obnoxiously loud so much as it has that 'Brrrraaaaaapppp' of an '80's 4cyl Ranger with a glasspack... Yuck.

I took it all off, and put the stock stuff back on for now. I think I can split the case of the muffler I built, modify the baffles, and weld it back together with minimal issues.

After the muffler is modified, I will get it painted and put it back on and just live with it.

Going back to my glasspack days.

Usually the louvers are all sloped the same direction. If you put the muffler on with them pointing toward the inlet like this \ they were fairly quiet. If you turned them around so the louvers were pointing away from the inlet like this / they were very noisy. Maybe your louvers aren't catching enough air???

So this may be obvious to everyone but me but, why wouldn't you just add the extension pipe onto your factory muffler?

I could, and still might, just tie the stock muffler into the new pipe. The thought process was increase size of pipe and remove restrictive muffler. Let it breath easier.

Is it a good idea to clamp that exhaust pipe tight to the ROPS? When things bounce around, will it hurt the exhaust manifold or other things? Does it have to flex?

See post #43.

I think it will be fine.

Got the top bracket painted yesterday.

Started grinding welds on the muffler, to get it opened up. Buddy at work said the muffler should be at the end of the long pipe, as sound echos inside long straight pipe sections, making the aweful sound more prominent. Larger pipe helps deepen the sound also, so Ihave some food for thought as this saga continues.
