JD 301A s/a 1020. How to test hydraulic pump

I want to test my hydraulic pump using a gauge.
Where do I plumb it in?

The manual is not helpful at all.

I made a test gauge using a quick connector, short hyd. hose and the pressure gauge. Just couple it into one of the hyd. connectors. (if that is what you are asking).

How do I “load” the hydraulics?

The only way I can add a load is by lifting new them 3 point hitch.
I haven’t t got a loader and the 2 auxiliary lines do not have a selector.

I found a pic of the hydraulic system. I am able to narrow down the high pressure line. I will need a T fitting.
I think I’m making headway.

Besides installing gauge in hyd pump as shown in photo you could disconnect power steering supply line(key 4) & attach gauge to that fitting with a swivel connector. Female swivel thread size is 0.562 IN

Heck yeah!
I have the proper fittings at the power steering line.

This type hyd check will not be correct way to monitor stand-by pressure on a 1020/300 prior to serial # 45,200 because those models have open center power steering with a pump mounted on RH frt of engine.

If you have a 301A then there should be no problem BUT since you put 1020 in your thread title I thought I better clarify before someone else damaged their open center power steering pump.

Problem solved!
Once I connected a pressure gauge to the power steering line I found the pressure was around 900 psi, far below the recommended 1800psi. I adjusted a bolt at the bottom of the main pump. Truth be told I removed it, inspected it, and put it back in and the pressure shot up. Maybe the previous owner had it installed wrong, maybe there was a bit of crud stuck in there. Either way my 3 point is fixed and I知 ready to till, now, drill holes.

Thanks for update. I'm glad you got it going. Factory stand-by hyd pressure should be set at 2250 psi.

The pressure should be 2250 as the tractor is at idle speed?
