JD 317 will only run in the start position

This is a new issue. My 317 will only run in the start position.When i release the key it shuts down. This started only after I started mowing and the pto was engaged, the engine would shut down. Seem that it was getting hot. This is a barn find and ran fine plowing this past winter after new fuel pump and being cleaned up. Would bad mower deck bearings cause too much resistance causing overheat? Any Ideas? Possible Fuse or rectifier?

I am wondering if there might be a resistor between the switch and the distributor? Like the early Dodges. Starts on 12, but runs on 6 volts.

Maybe the PTO and engine running or not are two separate issues. Possibly the seat switch is bad?
