I own a JD 4100 and I am having a major problem. The pto engauge is on the left and when I engaugae it to the mid or rear pto it sticks and will not go back into disengauge. So when I started last time, I got off the pto it stayed engauged and now it will not start beacause of the pto being engauged. Is they a way to relieve the pressure to get the level back?

Do you have any ideas how to solve this problem?

Thanks

Welcome to TBN, We will do our best to help you...

Have you tried to lube all the linkages between the selector lever and the tranny?
I know on my 4110 (very similar to your 4100), the pivot joints get tight from dirt and dust, especially when I do not change the position of the levers often.

If it an electrical switch, take the switch out to see what the problem might be. If it a linkage type PTO follow the linkage and move it by hand to the disengaged position.

definitely sounds like a mechanical issue. I think something is fetched up in the linkage.

The safety interlock doesn't care about the lever on the left. It just selects which PTO is engaged - the front, the rear, or both. It doesn't have an "off" position.

The safety interlock does care about the yellow PTO control knob on the right side of the dash. Pull it up to engage, push down to disengage.

At least thats how my 4100 works.
