JD 4600 not starting

So my 4600 has been great but sometimes i'd be ready to get on it and it wouldn't start for any amount of money.
Next day I'd try and it would start right up. I read some very good posts on here and I replaced my Thermistor with a marine switch mounted on the dash.
Started up first time but now we're back to not starting. I don't here the fuel solenoid clicking before the starter turns it over.

So my question is should I put Thermistor back in or take fuel shutoff solenoid off and check it?

It would be good to know symptoms and conditions when you're attempting to start the tractor. When you engage the starter does it always turn the engine over? If it does that and the engine won't start it's time to do some troubleshooting. Does the engine get fuel and air? Do the glow plugs work? How is the fuel shutoff solenoid used on the John Deere? I believe on the Kubota it normally allows free flow of fuel and the only time it energizes is briefly when the engine shuts down. That way the engine would always start but not necessarily turn off. Do a bit more troubleshooting before throwing money and parts at the problem.

Take the solenoid off,work it in and out to get the oil out,then reinstall.

2nd that. I have a 4300 with the same problem. I can now take off and re install the solenoid in 8 minutes.
Also, don’t order the cheap replacement. There are 2 options for a replacement. I got the cheaper option and it worked for 6 starts. Then acted just like the old one. Keep an eye on a thin O ring that sits in a slot against the back of the block. It’s easy to knock out and not notice.

Almost certain it's the fuel solenoid. It's has dual holdings. One for startup and one for holding it open it's not uncommon for one of the holdings to wear out. Sometimes you just wish for the old days where you just had a mechanical kill switch/shutoff.

My 4200 does the same thing. No clack no start. Most times I can get it going by working the priming lever, tapping on the solenoid and using a heat gun on the solenoid.

I believe it’s a poor solenoid design.

It’s a little tricky at first but I use a small 10mm box wrench with one hand and guide it onto the bolt head with the other hand.

On certain things I would say go with OEM but on this part I am pretty certain that JD just puts it in a green box with a deer on it and cranks up the price. The part is not overly difficult to get at and replace so in instances like this I tend to lean towards the cheaper parts. But then again I'm cheap...

What to get is really is up to you. Just make sure the plug-in terminal matches and you should be go to go.
