No air leaks around carb. New gaskets and made sure everything matched up. Had an old ford ranger where I swapped the electric junk carb for a nice 2barrel from an older ford and had gasket matching issues where the carb was sucking air from the base, so it's something I check now all the time. The gator only draws air from the one intake tube on the side where the restrictor is. So it's definitely to pull more vacuum. Hence leaning the carb if it's missing. JD just did a cheap fix to solve a cost effective way to manufacture. If you give it half choke the motor smooths out and picks up a little.
I know what you're talking about by diverters and hot air risers. I've only seen those on older machines and trucks. It's not the case in this one. Hopefully getting the issue fixed will resolve the cold running issues as well. I'm not going to run it till it's done right.
I used to tweak little 2 stroke scooters and found that messing with the air box was a bad idea if there's no jets available. And the cheap Chinese manufacturers did all sorts of wonky things to mix and match crap to get a working motor and ship it out.
Unfortunately it's going to be a while since all the parts have to be ordered. God help me if any parts I need from the dealer are actually in stock!
I am going to adjust the valves and give it a full service once it's 100% capable. I've already put a new spark plug and air filter in it.
Thanks guys I'll keep you updated.
