JD 5065E
Posted this in main forum and thought I'd post here, too, with some additional questions. Was quoted $30,900 for the 5055E with 553 FEL and $33,400 for the 5065E with FEL. Both MFWD. Are these good prices and is the extra 10HP worth $2,500?

How much more would the skid steer or global attach option cost as opposed to standard bucket?

Are five foot box blade and rotary cutter adequate or would six foot be better?

Looked at frontier and JD rotary cutters---are the JD cutters worth the extra money?

Thanks for any input.

The E indicates 4wd. D is 2wd.
My 5045d runs a JD MX-6 fine. I would go at least 6ft with your set up. I believe your track width will be more than 5ft.
Not sure it's worth the extra $$ but the MX-6 is a nice cutter. I've had many other brands over the years. Everybody seems to offer a light, medium and heavy option.

Considering you are two years after my purchase and a couple of sizes larger you are about right.I bought a 5045E with 553 loader and a six foot cutter with loaded tires spaced out eight inches for just under 30K$ back then. With the loader you should for sure have the rear tires loaded. Mine has 500 lbs of 'RimGuard' in each tire. You still need to have 2000lbs on the 3PH if your loading heavy wet stuff all day but for the average pick of 1000 lbs or less having the rears loaded will do nicely.

I'd go with the 5065. I owned 1 and it was an outstanding machine. I had a 7 foot box blade and a 6 foot cutter. Both are really good machines

I have a 2008 5303 4WD with 522 FEL. It would be comparable to the 5065E. If you can swing the extra $2500 you won't likely regret it. Depending on what you are wanting to do with this machine, I am not sure realistically what the 5065E would do that the 5055E wouldn't. Either will run any 6' implements without issue. I wouldn't want less than 6' stuff and pull an 8' 3pt disc harrow easily and wouldn't mind a larger rotary for field work. The MX6 has served me well without any issue. My previous tractor was a 2WD 5105 and don't recall a significant difference in running the MX6. For all other work, the 4WD is night and day difference. Think it is more the traction than horsepower.

I was quoted $809.19 for a SS carrier and $705.88 for a Woods brand 6ft bucket, in March of 2013.

It was a worthwhile option for me as I have several SS QA attachments, forks etc.

I assume your quote is with the 9F/3R sync shuttle transmission and not the Power Reverser? I got a 5065e last June with filled rears, std transmission, MFWD, 553 FEL , global quick attach bucket, heavy duty bucket. Paid 29250.

I agree the 5055e would probably do everything I wanted because I think the 4 wheel drive is so more capable compared to 2WD. I was hiring a man to plow food plots and bush hog and his 2WD was fine in dry conditions. I have some hilly terrain on timber tract and hunting property and the 4WD is essential. I purchased a Bush Hog 296, 6 foot medium duty cutter with chains front and rear for $2750. This implement has exceeded my expectations. I called Bush Hog because they specify minimum of 45 PTO HP for this cutter and I was not sure the 5055 would be a good match. The Bush Hog rep said a JD 45 PTO is real and he thought it would be fine. I ended up with 5065 anyway. In summary, I love my 5065. I love my Bush Hog 296, 6 foot cutter. I would not get smaller than 6 ft. The 5055 would probably be fine but since I never have compared under same circumstances I can't honestly say. I am new to tractors and I am constantly amazed at the power and capability if my tractor. Most if my exposure to friends tractors are compact 30-40 HP machines. So maybe I am easily impressed. I also pull a Woods 6 foot disc harrow and a 6 foot spring loaded chisel plow/cultivator and a middle buster with various width plow moulds for laying out rows for corn, etc. My uses are logging road maintenance, food plots, brush pile, cutting grass. The FEL is awesome too. Only removed the FEL using quick detach loader feature once (as opposed to bucket only removal). Very well engineered. This stuff if heavy. If you are not sure about how to detach loader, you could get hurt or damage something . I have not but I can see how an inexperienced person could so be careful. You can't go wrong. Good luck.

I was also looking at the same tractors along with the 5045 as well. I looked at both the 2WD and the MFWD versions. I eventually got the 5055E. I didn't think that the 10 hp more was worth the $2500.00. But, that being said the 5065E also has wider and taller tires than the 5055E. So, in theory it should pull better. I decided that I didn't need the larger tractor. If I need something that requires more pull I'll use my crawler loader. I just got mine this 2 weeks ago and I haven't even used it yet. I have to haul it to my property for the time being as I'm not living there and don't want to leave it out just in case. Anyway, Check on the dealers incentives. I got my 5055E w/533 FEL and a 6' Frontier for about the same as you were quoted. It was $30,315.00 total. No tax as I'm ag exempt. But, I bought a trailer to haul it on so it was classed as an implement and in May the incentive I got was buy two impliments and get one free. So, my total was $33,050 and 0% financing with 0 down. It would have been 20% down but I paid cash for the trailer. I hope this helps and I think either on will serve you well.

I have been looking at the 5000 series as well. Specifically the 45 or 55. As I understand it, you can either get the 60 months interest free or 1500 off if you pay cash. My dealer gave me a quote to trade and I would just as soon pay cash as the deal says 60 months interest free OR 1500 off if you pay cash! He told me he had all the discounts already built into the trade and that I couldn't get the other 1500. off. Huh?? I don't get it!! The deal doesn't say that and I don't get how he can say that if I don't want the free interest deal! It makes no sense to me! He had no idea I was going to be saying that I wanted to pay cash so I don't know how he could have even built in the 1500 off into the deal and then offered the interest free too. I wonder if he now realizes he offered me to good of deal and doesn't really want me to take it. I don't really have a clue.

Do a bit of a google on overheating hydraulics, faulty rear svc, melting fuel tanks, and where this series of tractors is made. Perhaps the issues are sorted now, but I've decided against buying this series JD.
