Any leak in the suction line from the pump to the filter can cause noisy, jumpy, or slow hydraulics. Be sure to check hoses 13 and 15. also check orings and seals 26, 27, 29, and 30.

Update: It has been a frustrating process to this point. I am going to be more specific as to what has been done by my request and what has been done under warranty and what the situation is now.
I purchased the tractor locally with 380 hrs. The tractor looked and operated like new, with one exception. at around 1400 rpm's there was a loud "buzzing" sound coming from under the right side of the tractor. I felt like this was a hydraulic line that needed to be re-supported because when i grabbed the lines at the rear SCV's the sound was muted a good bit. My local dealer was running a winter service special with very reasonable delivery so I thought I would let them do the service and address the hydraulic noise at the same time (I had transferred the warranty). As I mentioned in a previous post, I had also noticed that the engine sound had changed, periodically making a louder knocking/dieseling sound that I attributed to the fuel system needing to be serviced. This was happening with hardly any load on the tractor. So...
Winter service was done (oil, oil filters, all grease fitting etc) In addition a fuel service was done. Flushed fuel system, new filter etc. I addition, I authorized a hydraulic system service which included filters, fluid etc. Finally, I asked that an oil sample be submitted to JD as I was interested in extending the warranty that expires on 1-26-17. This was all done on 12-16-2016. There was also a PTO module that was changed under warranty but it is not reflected on my paperwork.
Got the tractor back, and after about an hour noticed that the FEL was getting louder when raising, lowering, or curling etc. It was also "jumpy" as I mentioned in a previous post. It seemed to me to be a flow issue and I wondered if something had been re-installed incorrectly. There were no leaks.
They picked up the tractor again. The diagnosis for the loader issue was a missing bolt off the inlet pipe at the pump, and that the bolt was not reflected on the JD Parts website, and that the only solution was to replace the pump, which they did. The old pump was black and more oval in shape, and the new pump is painted green and is round.?
The kicker though, is that they diagnosed a further hydraulic issue as a failed internal transmission pump, requiring them to split the tractor to replace, which they did. I had mentioned in passing a "whirring" sound when using the reverser, and that I felt the hydraulic fluid had air in it when viewing it in the sight glass, and the internal pump was the cause apparently.
So, I have the tractor back, it still makes the "dieseling" sound for no reason, and the hydraulic line still makes the noise at 1400-+/- rpms, and no one can find my oil sample so I will miss my window for extending my warranty, but I do have clean oil, new filters, a new hydraulic pump, and a new internal transmission pump. I must say it has been and continues to be frustrating.
Thanks for your interest.

Can you get your own oil sample in time? Life has taught me to be wary of coincidences.
This is rough but maybe even trade or sell the tractor. All that has been done has been for zero gain on the issues. .

I am trying to get involved in the oil sample search. This dealer has 30+ locations and Deere apparently is not returning their calls. My impression is that this is not a dealer problem, but a JD lack of response.

If you haven't done it already, write it all down and describe the gory steps from beginning to end, as best you can. Date, and sign it, and make copies with one sent to your lawyer. Send more than one to Deere and company as best you can. To the dealer's head CEO as well.
Phone calls get translated and lost. Written documents get handled one way or another, but at least you have your own paper trail.

The hyd. noise you describe is one I hear when the oil is cold and the tractor is somewhere near idle rpm. Increasing the rpm makes it go away, but this may not be what you experience. Has done it since day one, but has not been a problem other than to remind me to kick up the rpm a bit.

Sorry to dig up an old body here, but any update?

I just bought a 5085e with about 650 hours and I notice the "dieseling" noise. Is there an official term for this? It sounds like rattling valves to me - should we be looking at adjusting valves this soon?

I have had the tractor about 3 days and haven't really had time to work with it (RAIN!). It has a couple of small issues that I knew about, let's hope nothing major pops up.

First, I need to apologize to those who participated in this thread back in early 2017. For some reason I did not follow up with a status report and may have left some questions unanswered. KY Gun Geek, I suppose "dieseling" is not the best term for the noise that my 5085e makes. It is more of an intermittent lugging, or chugging diesel sound, typical of a diesel when under load, except that it does it while under hardly, if any any load. For instance, driving the unloaded tractor over a terrace row, or raising the FEL while driving on flat ground. It may be my imagination, but I think it also affects performance when using the tractor at rated speed (baling etc). It seems to me the tractor should not sound like it is laboring if it is not. I am convinced the issue is related to the hydraulics. The bottom line is that the tractor now has 600 hours on it, it still makes the chugging noise, the hydraulics still have some type of irritating harmonic at 1400-1650 rpm that will drive you crazy, and the tractor will shake your teeth out on the road between 8-9.5 MPH. It has JD serviced hydraulics, a new hydraulic pump, and a new internal transmission pump that required the tractor to be split, (all to no effect on the original complaints). I understand who Deere is marketing the tractors to. I am typical of their customers for this series. I am considering a new tractor, or at least looking at some options but will not be another E series tractor.

JoeBob - I hear the same thing in my tractor. However, the weather has turned much warmer, and I don't hear this as often now. I do occasionally hear it out of a 5085m that I have as well. Seems to be the nature of these beasts (I know an m a different beast from an e).

I haven't noticed the harmonics in the 5085e - really don't have enough time on it yet, I've been fighting another problem that I think was caused by the wrong tranny fluid being used by the dealer I bought the tractor from. However, I do notice the shake in the 5085m (2wd) when traveling on a road. There are a couple of RPM/Speed combos that really get things shaking.
