JD 5103.. 50hp other units in sma category?$$

Saw an add for JD 5103 from "Greensouth" dealers ( Southern JD dealers...

Jd 5103 at 12999.00

Seems like an awfully good price for a 50hp machine. If I was buying today.. I think I'd have to leave blue... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Anyne's opinion on these units and that price. I take it this is an 'economy' model pretty much with a seat, pto, engine rops and tires, and no other 'amenities' to get that price... right?

sorry posted before i was done. that is just the tractor. Mine has about 20 hours on it. In my opinion, this tractor is the best bang for the buck JD has going. It is 50 hp/42pto hp. I pull a 6ft bushog and it does great. I really like the open deck. The tractor has only one downfall...it runs out of traction long before it runs out of power. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The last FT555 (50hp) I sold went for $13,000.00...that is of course with a factory rebate

Basic with a few amenities, perhaps:
-Independent PTO is a biggie
-Planetary Final Drive is nice
-Good strong hydaulic pump, compared to many CUTs
-Toplink Draft Control
-Foldable ROPs
-near 4500# wt. dry

Seems like alot of bang for the buck. Might be good for tillage and light haying on a small farm. Probably not a good choice for an FEL.

DeereFan; Does your tractor seem to be well put-together or have obvious corners been cut? Is the engine smooth and does it start easily? Anything a buyer should be aware of?

The JD engine, so far, is ultra smooth and starts easily. One complaint I have is this past weekend a small branch poked a hole in the vent (black screen) in my right side panel. I wish the screen was stronger and that it was available separate from the panel. I really like all the steel in the rear of the tractor. The plastic on the front is nice, light and easy to work with. I love the easy access to the engine compartment. The tractor has an "old iron" look with some new age upgrades. The open deck platform is also nice and roomy. I've cut some pretty thick stuff lately and it handled it fine. Basically put, if you are looking for a relatively inexpensive, solid farm tractor, the 5103 is a good pick. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
