I know there was a thread on the ePTO and I could not find it. I was out working the 5525 today some and took some pics of the ePTO setup so people could see it.

The tach shows 540 RPM PTO at 2 different engine RPMS.

2 PTO levers: One to put it in ePTO or regular and the usual engagement lever.

So whats the e for, on JD's e is usually electronic?, maybe enhanced.
Or is it basically just a 2 speed pto with a fancy name, how much pto hp on the 5525? is there a separate pto hp rating when running at the 1700 rpms?

In this case it stands are economy. Same PTO RPM with less engine RPMS. the 5525 is rated at 91HP, 75HP PTO. I do not know the HP rating when in ePTO mode. I am sure it is less.

A good example is when I run my HX-15 15' batwing - I run it in regular mode. With the MX-6, 6' mower, ePTO.

Thanks, it makes sense, the question always comes up when discussing pto generators, everyone wants to run the engines at lower rpms and still get the 540 just for that reason, economy, wear and tear, noise emissions. of course unless they have 2 speed ptos they can't with out some custom gear box, but even the ones with 2 speed ptos and a gen closely matched to their tractors pto hp rating, can't pull the full load when running at the slower engine rpms because of the lower hp issue.

For your tractors out put I'm sure you could still produce some high KWs even at the lower economy setting.

I'd be curious what the economy pto's setting's HP would be, just a wild guess maybe 40% less. Of course for there to be economy there has to be sacrifice, but that still leaves you with pretty substantial output, compared to smaller CUTs like mine.

I wonder if the tractor had load match if that would fix it?

Maybe one is for 540rpm and the higher 1000rpm?

Each is for 540RPM PTO with different engine speed.

With the specs on the John Deere website and a little math, I came up with 76 PTO (75 HP Advertised) at 2401 RPM= Regular PTO. A little more than 67 HP at 1700 rpm (ePTO speed). Most new Diesel engines have "Hump HP curves" and increased torque rise(%) as the RPMs decrease from Rated or Advertised RPMs. You really don't lose all that much. Peak Torque on this engine is 1400 rpms(61.1 PTO HP), so one only has 300 rpms worth of "cushion" before the engine torque decreases and the engine then loses power reasonably quickly below peak torque rpm[in ePTO mode]. Hope this helps a little.

Interesting... always learnin' on this site.

Now I have a better understanding of what the ePTO setup is all about and how it might play into different uses; i.e. runnin' a smaller mower or a gen set for a couple of days at a time!

ePTO is a slick idea. As fuel prices rise, I think we all will be wondering how much power we really need. I bought a 4720 and I am beginning to think a 4120 probably would have done it.
