JD 755 left rear wheel locks up in forward

I have a John Deere 755 that the left rear wheel locks up when going forward. In reverse it turns fine, but I can't seem to get much work done in reverse.http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

If anyone can give me some ideas on what to look for. I'm ready to take it apart if needed.

That would be my next step.

Don't force it forward, likely bust something worse if you do.

Sounds like a broken brake shoe.

Thanks, I was starting to think the same thing about the brake plates being broken. I forgot to mention the tractor has a Hydrostatic transmission, if that has anything to do with it (?)

Hi cmsofmich,

I have not yet taken it apart, I did however change the Hydro oil and changed the filter and cleaned the screen. The screen had metal flakes on it, so something is really wrong inside (I think). Afterwords the tractor acted the same so I will be taking it apart as soon as I get a little time.

Did you ever get to tear it down ? I have a ford 445D same thing exactly, right side only. Looking for a little more info before i tear down this one. Thanks for any and all help! TaterK

I had a bearing where the bearing cage broke. I think it allowed enuf play to jam the drive gears occasionally. Backing up freed it, but Im betting continued backing would have jammed too.

Thanks its going to be a teardown, how do you like your 2010? I almost had one, but it was totaled during transport. All I have left is the drawbar and engine breather tube and the cylinders from the FEL (45A).thanks for the reply. Kevin

2010 has been a good tractor. Its a gas tho so sustained hard work taxes it more than a diesel. -- And it reqiures too much steering and gear change effort for my wife to drive. It doesnt see hard work anymore but serves multiple fill in tasks. Being a high platform tricycle it has unique capabilities which come in handy on occasion. Always starts and runs well.

Hey Larry, yes my 2010 was a gas engine as well, had the engine block not been busted i might have tried to salvage it, but the loader was twisted to badly to repair and too many projects had precedence. Kevin

Larry, do you remember how the park brake on the 755 was , owner tells me he used the park brake when the problem started, I am thinking the spring broke that releases the lock. What you think? Kevin

I have no knowledge of the JD755. Your idea about the parking brake could be it I guess - if the tractor has individual brakes and uses them for parking. If so you should be able to "feel" the lockup in the associated pedal by experiment during individual use.
