jd 850 PTO question

I guess the main question would be 'where is the PTO shifter located' on a 1980 JD 850 2WD ?

hello, newbie here and I am looking at a 1980 JD 850. Cranked it and drove it a little yesterday and I am impressed with this little tractor. Only problem was that I could not dis-engage the PTO - it spun all test drive except when clutch was depressed. I may have been shifting the wrong lever - I was shifting a lever on the right side of 'hump', a flat kinda shifter that had a high, low, and neutral setting and shifted quite easily but did not dis-engage PTO. A shifter under the left side of seat - longish that had a knob on the end seemed almost non-functional smooth from floor to under seat.

PTO shifter is to your left by the fender while seated on the machine. You may have a black or yellow handle depending on which year you have. You need to put the clutch in to shift in or out of gear. There were two different series I think below 16000 serial number is a single stage clutch after (around 1984) is a two stage clutch which will let you stop forward motion but still have the pto in gear until you press the clutch all the way down.
