How big is your lot ?
JhonB - thank you for quick reply. I will install the mulching blade this week and see what it can do. I bought mulching blades along with mulch cover. Since most users not satisfied with the mulch cover, I may go ahead and return it.
Is JD D110 good tractor? It is my 1st riding-mower and like it alot so far.
I have a LA165 with the k46 rear axle that is three years old with not a hint of a problem. On this forum if you say something good about any of the 100 series mowers it's LIGHT THE TORCHES AND GRAB THE PITCH FORKS! I'd bet if you look at the number of JD base model mowers with a major problem sold compared to the total number sold it will be small. For comparison, The company my wife works for got her a new 2010 Explorer last year. She has put 59,000 highway miles on it. The rear end went out and right now it is in the Ford dealer's shop having new ring and pinion gears installed. It does not mater what you buy you take a chance of getting a lemon.
So guys, spare me the gloat of owning 7000 dollar lawn tractors, which let's face it, is the only reason you feel compelled to come to these threads, to flatter your ego's, or justify spending that much money on a tractor to simply cut grass each week. If you need such a beast...fine, and all the power to ya, but why poop on the guy who has a less expensive lawn tractor, because that's all his property requires. Let's be honest folks, you can get a lemon in the most expensive, or inexpensive machine out there, (that's why they have warranties, because of the 'odd' machine that is bad) If they knew that "all" lawn tractors would break on a regular basis, trust me, there would be no warranty on them anymore when purchased. A machine is only as good as he/she treats and maintains it....no matter what your ride. I've said it time and time again...."sometimes less... is just more", and please spare me the "you get what you pay for" line.....again, we're talking about cutting grass, which even a push mower could do and last for decades, if we weren't so lazy to push them.
2*You can increase or decrease that chance according to what you buyI have a LA165 with the k46 rear axle that is three years old with not a hint of a problem. On this forum if now it is in the Ford dealer's shop having new ring and pinion gears installed.

Ray, I don't own a $7000 JD. I own a LA145 that is three years old. If I were you and had a D100 series,
I'd be very careful at how many "crows" I kill at this point because eating them later may be a huge plate full of humility.
1*My experience has been that JD's design and quality in the economy mowers is really no better than Craftsman, Husky, or MTD.
3*Where JD excels is parts support.
Anyhow, say what you want, but you have to realize you are a 1-month wonder at this point and have almost no experience with your mower. You hope it will hold up and so do I, but I would be very careful how much chest-beating I do at this point.
4*I wanted a mower just for mowing and found that my low-cost mower was so unreliable .
Then I went out and bought a 12-yr old Kubota G1800 diesel with 1700 + hours as a backup. Guess which mower has been the most reliable? I thought I was making the best decision on buying the LA145 over a X3xx series mower because I just cut 1/2 acre of lawn with very few obstacles. If I had it to do over again, I'd buy the X3xx series. That's an opinion based on experience instead of hope.
5*You'll have plenty of opportunity to brag on your mower after 4 or 5 years if it proves to be a good decision for you.
I hope by then you still give it rave reviews.
6*I DO compare my new D series JD to a Sears MTD and other brand names, so I don't think I am bragging at all. I have no idea if my particular unit will last my expectations, but nobody can say that it won't either.
I have eaten crow before, and God knows I will most likely eat it again before I die, but to eat crow, is to admit defeat...
7*.something not everyone is honest enough to do.
I have a feeling I'll be able to come back here in a few years and watch others eat crow.
8*C'yal in 5 years.
1*A big box store tractor is a big box store store tractor is a big box store tractor.I concede the point.... But, When I was shopping for a new mower the JD dealer was right up front about the life expectancy of the models. LA1?5 5 years, X3?? 10 years, X5?? 15 years, X7?? 20 years. To buy anything above a X300 I would have had to financed it and I was not wanting to do that on a lawn mower. My LA165 + extended 4 year warranty was $100 less than a X300 at the time, but
9*it had a such small tires It would have had trouble getting around in the sandbox I live in.
I looked at the Craftsman and other MTD mowers in my price range but the JD dealer is 5 miles
When comparing apples to apples are the 100 series mowers a better value than the other brands?
10*I think so and when this mower craps out I'll go pay cash for another new one.
