JD GT275 Won't Start!

I am having a similar problem with my LX279, 17 HP kawasawki. It was running fine while mowing then died like it was out of gas. Refilled tank and only took 1 gal, holds 3. Restarted and finished mowing. Next start it took 20 or 30 seconds to get running smooth, acted like it wasn't warmed up. Put it under load by starting mower deck and it ran fine for 1 hour. Next startup it acted cold, sputtered and died in about 5 to 10 seconds. It kept this up for 3 more starts. Held the choke on and it will run slow with choke on only. Let choke off it dies. Fuel pump was replaced 2 years ago with fuel filter. Fuel filter is clear but only shows 2/3 full with an air bubble at the top 1/3. I need some suggestions and help as to what to do now. ???
Mine will run with choke on, yes it will.
The first time it died while mowing, backed up without holding up deck start knob and mower shut off (reverse safety) I applied park brake got off to Pee, and eng quit like it ran out of fuel. Pushed switch down after adding gas , it started up fine. Problem started after that.

This is what I ultimately did that worked. I have no explanation, but it did. On the left side of the tractor, near the throttle, there is a rubber hose. I had my son sit on the tractor, start it with the choke on, and as it ran, I covered the end of the hose with my finger. I don't know if it is an air intake or what, but after a few seconds the engine kicked-up, ran with the choke off, and has been good for over a year. All I replaced was the fuel filter. It is normal for the air in the upper 3rd.

Again, I don't know how it worked, but it did.

I will look for a hose. but don't remember any in that area that are not connected at both ends. The only one I know of is a drain off for the fuel pump if it fails and starts leaking on the muffler, it is about 1/4" OD . Did you find the other end where it was connected to something?

If it was me I would replace the fuel filter and put new gas in a nd try it you can always take the bowl off if this doesn't work...but it may fire and save the hassle of messing with the carb at all!!???

You need to check and make sure the fuel pump is pulling gas from the tank. It could have went bad. I do this by removing the fuel line from the carburetor and sticking it inside of a clear container and cracking the engine over to see if it is pumping gas. If it is working then it is probably the electronic fuel shut off mechanism that holds the bowl on. Check this as someone previously stated by leaving your switch on and pulling the wire off and on to see if makes a clicking sound every time you do this. If it does then it should be working. Mine went bad and it was an expensive little part. I know it shouldn't be done but I removed mine and replaced it with a regular screw from another carburetor that I had and just left the wire unhooked. Do this at your own risk as I am sure they placed these for a safety reason but mine works fine that way.
