hello all, im John in north Florida and im new here.
as of today. thanks for letting me in and ill do my best to help out where i can.
being semi blind now im sorta forum challenged so i hope this is correct area to post these myriad of questions i have running thru my melon now
yesterday i got a GX75 from a friend of mine who got a mower he likes better than the JD
the GX is in what i think is pretty good shape. it did not smoke after sitting a good while. started right up and the 9hp purrs nicely and it will actually move under its own power. steering is tight and paint pretty good too.
now the bad stuff i need advice on. i have a 455 with hydro and before had 855 with hydro so i dont have a clue about this 5 speed and its locked in some gear. all it will do is move forwards no matter
where the shift level is at. (good thing it is light and im still strong) darn glad its not the 455 with this issues.
long ago i took a course in small engine repair and the tranny looks like a peerless to me but im not sure and have not verified tranny brand.
also the deck belt is gone so no mowing either. pulleys are free and appear to be lined up and blades are ok for another year but its missing a deck wheel also.
im trading some cleanup work to my over scheduled single parent buddy for this old mower so i figure i have about 100 bucks in it.
the engine that runs is surely worth that as i checked northern on replacement power cost.
after my loader hurt me i cant see very well so there is not much if any income here now so i really have to do stuff on the cheap. im very handy but im hopeful you folks might can guide me on getting this machine in order again.
i would like to keep it as a backup or mower for places too tight for the 455 to mow
i checked preco for peerless trans but no model listed for the deere (of course not ) i also found the shift linkage and got it freed up to begin adjustments if that might be it.i have no qualms about getting greasy back when or now either.
instead of being all hung up on sight loss i try to look at it as challenge. it sure nuff is
my thoughts are this too even being almost blind now im still pretty capable guy with tools its just been many moons and i never did any rider trannys or even belts. i also avoid all dealers if at all possible and most local shops around here no matter what they sell.be them auto appliances or L@G equipment parts/repair
would you folks be so kind as to advise thru this GX75 adventure?
thanks in advance, John Hall
