Hey there! It's the ongoing saga of my MX8 again. From the last time, God blessed as Heritage Tractor realized I was still under warranty by just a month or so. All fixed for FREE! Unbelievable, right? But still, TRUE.

Next chapter! So first time I go to use it on sericea lespedezia this season, I check everything except blades, as I'd sharpened before and getting under this thing is a painful task. Gear oil seems a little high on right side, but what to do? Put dipstick cap back on. I mowed maybe 3 acres. Gear oil is leaking out of cap on right. I start getting metal impacts, but only at certain RPM. Suddenly, a huge bolt shears and one blade flies out. I'm done.

My truck is in the shop, so it will be awhile to be able to take it in. Loading/unloading and transporting the MX8 by itself on my gooseneck is no fun. I'm thinking about trying to fix/replace the blades on my own. Anybody ever stand one of these up vertical to work on the belly? How did you do it? Is this a difficult repair, should I wait to take it in? The sericea isn't waiting.

Oh no, I hope it's not serious.

I've been working under rotary cutters by putting them on jack stands and crawling underneath. Or on my tractor with a hydraulic top link, lifting it up in the back and chaining it up.

This is a tow cutter, no lifting using top link. JD did not indicate a center of gravity on it, or weld on any lifting rings. Its heavy. I was thinking about backing it up to a tree with a log staked crossways against the tree base and MX8 real wheels to block them. Then, use a strap around the yoke to lift it up and back towards the tree with my FEL, and finish standing it up almost vertical on its wheels with a comealong winch on the tree. Working under it requires stands in 4 locations, and even then it's close quarters and painstaking to adjust them all to get there. Still seems wobbly to me.

The torque ratings are pretty high on those blade bolts, I'll probably need to buy a torque multiplier.

I really wish I had a good 7 ft mower with 3 point connection instead.
