JD or Kubota? Opinions please

The spec are not always easy to find and they are not always actually rated the same. Different manufactures take their ratings from different places. That is what makes it really confusing. I think that they do it just so the average consumer will have no idea what they are looking at.

Sonnie, just as Jerry wrote, different manufacturers post the ratings differently. I have, in the past, posted some fairly detailed information on this topic.

I know that Mahindra rates their tractors at the pivot points on the FEL and at the ball eyes on the 3pt hitch. It is on the website but you have to dig for it. For reference on other brands, Kioti lists FEL capacity at piviot points, but 3pt capacity at 24" behind.

Kubota, New Holland, Case & Massey Fergusion rate their FEL's at the bucket center and at 24" behind the ball eyes (M-F may rate the 3pt at the ball eyes but I'm not sure I remember and didn't go back to my notes or their website to doublecheck) Massey is one of the few who lists "breakout" at the bucket lip, which is the best measurement for that capacity.

John Deere has everything on their website but it is often hard to tell what they are showing, the best source is to look at their on line manuals and those are very detailed and show bucket center and 24" behind the ball eyes, but some marketing material shows pivot point and ball eyes.

Branson, Century and other brands all do some combination of the above and brands with aftermarket loaders as options are even more confusing because then you have to rely on the tractor dealer to give you information which they may not even know where the capacity measuring points are from!

That's a hoot!

I don't want to hijack the thread comparing these models so I'll start another because I'd like to learn a little on these specs. I've done enough damage to Bobbyjak's thread already.

I did a couple of smaller charts not only with these three but with three larger tractors as well... just for the heck of it.

Ordered the JD 5205 this morning..Should have by Saturday..Kubota dealer couldn't seem to get a M4900 ready for me to test drive..I would think a week was long enough to wait..

I want to thank everyone for their input/opinions..Much appreciated..Thanks again..

I did say Company, not product, I am well aware that most if not all compact tractors are not made In the U.S.A. ..JohnJ

Congrats Bobbyjak,

Hope you enjoy years of safe tractor fun!

I looked on the map for Oakwood. What do folks do around there? Looks like kind of a small (don't blink or you'll miss it) town. I'm guessing farming. Your about 150 miles northeast of me. Hope you've had more rain than us. What towns are the dealers in that you've been comparing?

Anyway, post some pictures when you get your new machine.

I live about 9 miles south of Oakwood (pop 471) off fm 542 on the Trinity River..All but 1 acre of our 28 acres backs up to the river..Most people around here are retired or work for the county (Leon) or the school district..Some still raise peas & water melons for the market..We grow peas, water melons, potatoes, & corn..Not for sale though..I am semi -retired and work from home (write compuer software)..My company is in Kingwood, TX..Just had satellite high speed internet installed..Works great until a thunder storm moves in area..Moved here about 1 1/2 years ago from Spring, TX..Had the place since mid 80's..Don't miss all that traffic in the Houston area..Kubota dealers are in Crockett, Palestine, & Normangee..JD dealer where I ordered tractor from is in Crocket..I purchased a Case 1390 (70hp) from a dealer in Crockett 22 yrs ago..Hope this helps..
