Price Check JD Price: Website vs Dealer

I've greatly expanded my search radius and have managed to get the local dealer to discount the MSRP by 15.73% /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif. My goal is to squeeze some more and try to get the discount up to 19.44% /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif through competetive bidding. Wish me luck. I see that JDGreen4Me got a 21% discount down in Southeastern PA. I even be willing to go fetch it for that kind of a price reduction.

Now you're getting there. You want a decent price, but don't discount (pun intended) the value of a good dealer. Knock on wood I've not had a single warranty issue to test my dealer with - but the more I live with my tractor - and read of the pre-delivery setup issues others have run into - the more I appreciate the first-class job my dealer did. Not a single bolt or nut has come loose - in fact every significant fastener the dealer was responsible for during setup was not only torqued right, but got a paint strip to make any movement visible and obvious. All the hoses were routed right, everything was mounted straight and square. And they were willing - both pre-delivery and during delivery - to spend as much time with me as I wanted going over every operation/maintenance aspect. If you feel comfortable that the local dealer is a heads-up outfit and will work with you over time, I'd say you're well into the reasonable discount level.

I do believe that the price quoted thus far is quite reasonable as far as discounting goes, but I really need a slightly higher cut rate to feel comfortable about buying it. Financially, it's a big bite out of my income.

Thanks for the pricing guidelines in SE Connecticut, Haoleguy. I just priced a 4120/400XFEL/448BH at a reputable central Connecticut JD dealer (who has my confidence from previous dealings) and their qoute was 15% off the whole package, plus small freight and 500 bucks setup. Your report tells me that I'm at least in the right ballpark.
Hope my report helps someone else.

What's the $500 setup fee for? To recoup the 15% off MRSP?

I'll be questioning that and $650-15% for Rimguard Monday.

The dealer invoice is 23% lower than the MSRP listed on the Deere website.

Currently, Deere is not offering any cash rebates to reduce the cost below this number. All of the current finance programs they are running requires the dealer to kick in 1% of the financed amount to help defray the cost of the interest rate buydown.

Figure out the invoice cost, add a reasonable amount for set up (6 to 8 hours of shop time) and whatever profit you think the dealer should take.

Work up from the cost, not down from the MSRP for the best cost. If you allow the dealer to make 10% of the invoice price plus setup and freight to the dealer (usually $200), any dealer should feel good about it.
