Good afternoon, I have a John Deere 4300 that has a front end loader with 4 hydraulic lines out but no other on the tractor. While inspecting the SCV from the bottom side last night I noticed that it has 6 outs -- four in use for the loader and two extra with allen-headed plugs, and there is a valve for them.

My question: is this definitely an extra set of ports (seems obvious, but I want to make sure)?

And, if it is an extra set and I need one of the ports for a rear attachment that has its own valve body that is set up as an open center with a return to sump, can I tap one of these ports and lock the valve open? Note that the attachment has only one pressure input, with no need for second.

If so, are there any negative consequences in doing this?

Those ports are for the rear third SCV option. The "kit" comes with the hard piping, brackets, QD's and the control lever that goes on the right fender. The kit used to be about $250.00 or so, and is pretty easy to install.

To operate a device with it's own valve, you will first need to make sure it's an OPEN CENTER valve, then you can use a bungee cord, rope, wire ties, or make a bracket to hold the lever on the fender open.

This is probably the same kit that was used on the 4200 and is no longer available...GRRRRRR! I could use one of these myself.

HMMMM, Could be...

But I bet you can still get the parts to the kit through JDParts.com and make the kit yourself. At the very least you would just need the lever part of the kit, the fittings, hoses, and QD's could be sourced elsewhere.

hydraulic block, I do not know. If it does, the only part you need from
JD is the power beyond diverter plug ($2.50). Consult your parts diagram
for this plug.

Then you get an aftermarket valve and install it on the fender, using
hoses to the SAE ports (capped off now) on top of your hyd block under
your seat. You DO need a low pressure return to the oil reservoir, which
can be a T into an existing return, or you can buy a adapter to your oil
fill hole.

I am looking on JD's parts site and cannot find the diverter plug. Also, where can I get an adapter for the oil fill hole? (It is metric and the return pipe is not.)

This is from my PDF parts file for the 955. It is on page H8, titled
Auxiliary Hydraulic Kit. The 4300 should have a similar page.

The plug is part # 15, description is:
15 PT13744 PLUG 1 DIVERTER (INSTALL INTO ROCKSHAFT CYLINDER
HEAD PER INSTRUCTION SHEET)

I do not know if this is the same as for the 4300.

As for adapters for the oil fill hole, I bought my last one from a Kubota
dealer (for a Kubota of course). They often have to add aftermkt
hyd valves for customers. If you go, bring your cap to compare threads.

I recently bought a 3rd SVC kit off Ebay for my 4300 from a JD dealer who still had it in stock. I will try to get it installed once the weather warms up here a bit.
Let me know if I can be of any assistance. I am not sure about the PB plug as my tractor already has the PB kit on it.

If the factory kit is complete, it should come with an instruction sheet with
photos that is crucial for understanding how to install the PB connection.
These instructions were not in the factory service manual for my 955, so
the same is prob true for the 4300.

Did you happen to buy this kit from the company out in North Wilkesboro, NC that bought out a JD dealership? I just bought what they described as a 3rd SCV kit for the 4000 series of compact tractors and, before bidding, I noted that someone else had recently bought a kit from them that had the same description. Was that you by any chance? And, if so, tell me about the kit's contents . . .
